ok guys, what should i do
« on: November 11, 2004, 10:37:34 AM »
I am currently thinking about building a new arsonel.  been 2 years since I've done too much.  I've already got a Columbia Wired that i'm going to put in there.  and I'm thinking about picking up an Intense Inferno, because I can pick one up new for 100 bucks.  I'm going to buy another Columbia Wild (love that ball).  And I'm going to have a heavy oil ball (probably the newest thing from track).  I'm going to have a 6 ball arsonel (including plastic) and I want it to cover Just about everything, because I do bowl in a lot of tournaments.  So ive got room for one more ball.  and i'd like it to be from Visionary.  so I'll let you guys choose.  what do you think would be the best ball for me to try out??  Here i'll list them again.

Track ball (Heavy oil)

Columbia Wired

Brunswick Intense Inferno

Columbia Wild

Plastic ball

Visionary ball of what type???

Thanks in Advance
P.S. Check my profile for stats.

I would go with a G-3 or a Violet Gargoyle.  Out of all my visionary balls, my G-3 is my goto ball.  Nothing hits harder than a G-3.  Visionary's sleeper ball that deserves more advertisement.

Based on your arsenal, the Violet would be the second best choice.  Good Luck!  Have you seen our Test Staff Membership options.  Check them out by going to the Visionary site.

Good Luck,

Steve

Actually......if it were me, I would stay away from the G3 just because of the fact that you already have a couple pearls in that arsenel.  I think the best choice is the new Centaur.  The reason is because it is a solid reactive with a version of the best core they have made to date and the ball is a very good "control" ball.  It is not very jumpy off the dry.  But, it has a continuous arc to the pocket with good hitting power.  If you are going to bowl more seriously now, a good control ball is a definite need in any arsenel.  Also...if you are looking for a heavy oil ball, you may want to consider a Brunswick ball.  They have the Ultimate Inferno, Warp Zone, and now the Goliath to choose from.  I have heard some really positive things from the Goliath to date.  Track's best heavy oil ball was since discontinued not long ago in the Phenom.

well after re-thinking about my heavy oil ball, I may just keep my mutant since it is still running strong.  only has maybe 60-70 games on it.  I may just resurface it and call it good.  Plus it will save me about 200 bucks . thats always good.  now for the visionary ball it is definately between the 3 you guys mentioned, in the G-3, Violet, or Centaur.  my only problem with the centaur is that I'm afraid it may come too close to overlapping the Wired.  but with it having a solid coverstock it may provide a different enough look that it should work fine.

I_bowl4money...  is there some reason you didn't recommend the Centaur,  it was actually one I had been thinking about.  Just curious.  Thanks.

imjouster,

I did not recommend the Centaur because I was looking at the current bowling balls you had and was giving you 2 balls that would fit in between your Track Ball and your Intense Inferno.

The Centaur is a great Sport Shot/Med-Light to Light oil ball.  The Solid Cover allows the ball to read the backend more smoothly then a polished reactive would.  The Core is not as strong as the other two balls which means your will not be swinging alot of boards with a Centaur (unless they are fried).

It's all in what you are looking for.  If you want something very controllable, predictable, and hits like a mack truck when you play up the track, then I would definitely choose the Centaur.  If you're looking to move left and open up the lane, then the G-3 is probably your best pick with the Violet being a close second.

There is a new Centaur that is being passed and should be approved this week by ABC.  It will also allow you to open up the lane and is a huge change from the original Centaur.

Honestly, the G-3 is polished reactive and the Violet is solid reactive.  G-3 skid-snap; Violet strong-roll.  You can decide.

Best of Luck and let me know your decision.

Well I haven't completely made my decision yet but I am really starting to lean towards the Violet Gargoyle.  I really don't think I'll need another skid snap ball.  so that kicks out the G-3.  I don't want the ball too be too jumpy off the dry but I want it to roll up hard and strong.  the Centaur probably would be my second choice, but i think in this case the Violet will just be a tad better for me.  Thanks everybody for your opinions, they really helped.  and if you have more, then let'er rip.  I'm still open for suggestions.

imjouster,

You may want to wait for the New Centaur!  It was approved last Friday by ABC and is on it's way out....I had the opportunity to throw one as a demo and wow!

It's very smooth in the front and very strong through the back.....not snappy, very strong rolling!

I'll have more info soon, I getting mine either today or tomorrow.

Bowl4money --- How are you getting all your stuff so fast? Just kidding.  I'm here in St. Louis and a test staff member, but I'm anxiously awaiting more info on this new Centaur.  You have been pretty impressed so far with it though?  Right now I am using the G-3 mostly and have been switching out to the Slate Gargoyle when the G-3 hasn't been working for me (also have the Burgandy, but haven't really had enough oil to throw it).  My 4th ball is still open for me to pick.

Tappa,

Not to toot my own horn, but I have a contract agreement with Visionary.  It's not completely a full ball staff type contract but one of their versions.  I am very good friends with Frankie May (Visionary's East Coast Rep) and bowl and do business with his son's proshop (Ryan May).

I threw the new Centaur and although the recently posted information on the website states this is a skid/flip ball, drilled control this ball will react very smooth through the front (almost effortlessly) and be roll very heavy on the backend.

My idea of a skid/flip reaction is something that clears the heads but will then "jerk" on the backend and in most cases can be too much or not enough sometimes depending on the condition.

Drilled control, this ball does generate a distinguished breakpoint but without the sudden "jerk" people are accustomed to seing with a skid/flip reaction.

I will say this.....believe me...this ball flat out rips racks!  I smell more honor scores with this ball.  I'm licking my chops.

As for a 4th ball in your arsenal, I would go with a Violet or a Green Gargoyle.  I'm very surprised that your adjustment from the G-3 is to a slate gargoyle.  The Green Gargoyle would fit nicely between the G-3 and slate.  It will enable you to generate similar length that you do with the slate, but give you a much stronger backend.

Best of Luck!

Steve
