A_P_K you've heard me mention my use of my Midnight Scorcher. Here is how mine is laid out.
My PAP is 4 7/8 over 1/2" up much like yours. 3" CG to pin to start. 3 3/8 x 1 1/2. 25 deg. drilling. X hole 1" dia. 1 1/2" deep just past my PAP to make ball legal. Ball is highest flaring ball I own. Large widely spaced rings.
This is what Rollrite says about 25 deg. drillings. "The 25 degree will give you a slightly milder arc than the Zero. when lanes are slick in the heads and very dry at the backend, the 25 would be a good choice.
Unlike the Zero, this will hook and set if the backends are dry enough, which causes the ball to go into a forward roll, losing side rotation. This is the control factor in the 25 (not to be confused with roll out) and is a good choice for high rev players when over-reaction is a problem. Also a good choice for medium revs, but this layout may not hit (hard enough) for the straighter bowlers.
When getting the ball through the heads is no problem and less reaction at the breakpoint is required for good carry, then this layout will work very well, especially for the higher rev players.
The one downside of these two layouts is that they will lose hitting power when the backends get slicker or the heads start to roll early.
This is not a problem if you have a 45 degree and 75 degree in your arsenal."
I use mine of heavy oiled heads usually on fresh sets early play. When heads start to go so does carry. Put it away. Early rolling ball with great coverstock & core for straighter lane play. Very condition specfic for me. Never take it with me unless it's tournaments.
Hope this helps,
Scott
