Comparison Gladiator Pearl to Ogre Black & Purple Pearl
« on: July 15, 2008, 02:07:52 AM »
How does the Gladiator Pearl compare to the Ogre Black and Purple Pearl?  Does anybody have both?  Say both drilled close to the same thrown by the same bowler on same lane condition.  BTM’s numbers are close to the same.  Is their too much overlap?  Seems like they would have close to the same type of ball motion and oil handling ability although BTM gives the Pearl Glad more of a drier lane ball.

Different coverstocks Galea Pearl to Eradicator Pearl....how much difference?

Who can add some informed opinions?

BTW…..I sent  a msg to info@ballreivews to add the Pearl Gladiator as I don’t see it on the review list.

Watching the glad pearl roll and not owning it but having the ogre pearl, I believe it is more arcy and slightly stronger.A dry lane ball from watching Mvpbowler throw the glad pearl NOT would be the answer, the pearl was a few boards less than the solid glad but not that much down in ball strength.

No need to PM me Scotts ill answer here

IMO the basic difference is where these two balls start to make their move on the lane.  The ogre pearl reads the lane a bit earlier and makes more of an arcing motion, where as the Gladiator Pearl is longer with a much stronger move in the backend...as the amount of volume increases you will start to see some overlap between the two.  But they really make a good one two punch on most mediums.  I can start with the Ogre Pearl, and when that starts checking up a bit too early, i can go right to the gladiator pearl and stay in the same part of the lane.

Hope that helps

Britton,

Thanks!  Where does the SS figure into your equation differences and alike?

I am glad this was brought up. I have been thinking of this as well. Also wonder about the Immortal Pearl vs. Gladiator Pearl.

Ok here it goes, my question to anyone who has thrown them all, I have the ogre pearl, the ogre SS, the gryphon pearl, and the immortal pearl, where does the gladiator pearl and the bronze centaur fit in, and how much do they over lap.

^^ The only 2 I can compare for you would be the G3 gryphon and the Centaur pearl, I would say total hook is pretty close but the G3 is skid/snap hockey stick and the AMB is a real hard arc. I think the AMB pearl handles more oil.

Thanks Britton...and thanks Scott for asking it as I'm in the process of getting the Gladiator Pearl plugged.

My thoughts on both of them being stacked was that the Ogre Pearl would be stronger and that the Glad Pearl would be pulled out to get a little more length and more snap on the back end.

In terms of fit with the others:
Blue Centaur
Gladiator
Ogre Pearl
Violet
Gladiator Pearl
Slate Blue

At least that's how I see it.

Like you NEED another weapon in an already potent arsenal! I'm still putting my money on my all-Gargoyle army!!! I'm starting to realize just HOW good that Violet is. Now I know why you let me keep this one on the shelf for so long before I had it punched up! If you look up "benchmark ball" in the dictionary, there should be a pic of this ball. This fall should be real interesting to say the least...

The arsenal is being worked on and finalized....that's the only thing of importance!!  LOL.

As for the Violet, I told you all about the ball.  However, you 'claim' you guys have no backends at all and when you truly have no backends, you know that ball just skids.  That's the only reason I told you not to bother drilling it!!  When you have backends, the ball is a dream!!

Do I need to remind you of the NIB I have sitting here at work??

Agreed Violet is great middle of the road ball....shot one of my all time highs with one 796.  Right now the Ogre Black and Purple pretty much fills that benchmark slot.

Checked out some BTM numbers and Pearl Glad more torque/differential off the spot which verifies what Britton has said.  Forme probably the Pearl Glad would be a better ball to move deeper into the lane.  BTM commented that the Ogre  Blurple Pearl wouldn't carry as well deeper depending on layout and condition.

For many of us nothern climate bowlers we don't see a lot of oil til ground freezes and lane beds seem to keep the oil on them wihout dissapating (mid Dec.).  So, I'll be using more pearlized balls early in the coming season.
