Scuffing an SS
« on: November 25, 2007, 03:43:48 PM »
Ok, seeing shiny equipment gives me the willies these days i'm thinking of attacking this thing with my trusty green pad. Anyone else knocked some of the shine off one of these?

Adrian,
Like Scott33 said I have done this to my SS and found the balls reaction to be fantastic for house conditions with some carrydown.  If you are a slower speed then maybe give the out of box surface a try first, it is very easy to alter the surface.  I used a 1000 abralon pad to scuff the ball down, I compare this ball much to the original inferno with a tad more punch on the backend.

Iv'e got a fair bit of ball speed(on my dryish home condition anyway) and get up the side of it a bit too so the SS' jumpy backend can catch me out sometimes, just trying to smooth it out some.

Do remember Drrev2000's PAP is 3.5 & 1 Up.  That will make a difference is how you compare to him in roll, etc.

What would it do for a Higher PAP Scott?

IMO and this is a generalization....higher PAP's say bowlers that are over 5" over.  Would get more length <forward roll> and snap off of friction.  Bowlers with lower tracks under 4 1/2" would get length thru spin but the ball generally would roll earlier when hitting friction.

This is why I am always careful about giving info as our techniques can be so different.  Add to that different lane conditons.  What one bowler calls dry heads with carry down to another maybe perfect for what they like.  Comfort zones....some when getting out of the track area can get lost.....you know what I mean.

What works for me may not work for you and vicea versa.

Had a few rolls with it on a bit of a burned up condition this afternoon. The problem wasnt so much squirt with me but just too strong a move at the spot(even though the pin is about 3 7/8 from my axis to check up a little earlier) I've done a similar thing with my Solid Ogre(rather worn green pad over polish) And the SS is still a little longer and stronger but its got a look on the lane i can control a bit easier than before. Will try it on some fresh tomorrow which im really looking forward to.(hell i even did this to my Omega Lion for a laugh, i like that too!! )
