Green Gargoyle for Dry Lanes?
« on: July 20, 2003, 09:07:05 AM »
I am new to Visionary equipment and would like to know if the Green Gargoyle would be a good choice for dry lane conditions.

a lot depends on your style, revs, rotation, speed, tilt. you need to give that out for specific information.

however, in general. this is a light oil ball. the backend is pretty big on a light wall shot, as is with most pearls.

drilling may help reduce the backend. I recently had a Blade Pearl drilled with 135 deg layout. the pin is above the fingers and CG is in the ball track( for me, a high tracker) this tames down the back end somewhat. if your speed is slower( high amount of friction for any reason) you will see a hook-set reaction. with more speed you will get length with a decent backend turn. it's a one dimensional drilling. I find mine good for only dry lanes and spare shooting on the rest.

I would not get a Green Gargoyle for lighter conditions.  I have one and any time that the lanes begin to dry up whether it is in the heads or further down lane, this ball has a hard time getting down the lane cleanly.  I find this to be a medium oil ball.  I recently bowled at a house that had only oiled in the morning and here it was 8:00 at night.  So, needless to say they were pretty dry.  My first ball, I was standing on 30 playing around 17 TRYING to get the ball out to around 5 at the breakpoint....the ball never made it to 10.  The ball checked really early and hit the 7 pin.  Visionary does not really have a TRUE dry lane ball.  From what I have seen with my own eyes, the Blue Scorcher seemed to not over-react to dry.  I definitely would not go with a Gargoyle.
