Fall Leagues-Line Up
« on: September 01, 2008, 10:50:40 PM »
For most of us fall elagues start this week or already have.

What are you gonna use in your fall leagues?

I'll start.  I'll bowl two leagues this year both 5 man hdcp leagues both on Bruns Anvilane.  One in a 1st generation and one in a 2nd generation.  Not sure what the conditions will be like but assume pretty much like last year.  I have not gotten an Ogre Particle yet but will especially if the house shots are more heavy than last.

Line up.

DT Solid Black Vendetta-pin next to ring 3.75"x3.5" Ressurection finish lil polish over or Legends Yeah Baby-pin over ring 4.25"x4.5" OOB (put the Ogre Particle here)
Gladiator Solid-pin over ring 4"x3.5" 2000 ab OOB
Ogre Pearl-pin over ring 4.25"x4.25" 4000 ab
SS Ogre-pin over ring 4.25"s4.25" OOB
Legends Arrow-spare ball

Leagues start on Friday. Went from all-Hammer/Faball to all-Visionary lineup this year. My lineup-

Have an Ogre Pearl that is getting drilled up and should be ready this week. Thinking it will fit in between the Granite and Violet.

I am currently still working on my arsenal, but in 2 weeks I will take part in the season's first tournament and currently my 1st choice 4 ball line-up (that's what I normally bring) looks like this:

Oily - Lanemasters New Standard², OOB "sheen", 4" label drilling
Medium-oily to oily: Visionary Franke May Gryphon, 2.000 Abralon, pin down 4.5 x 4.5
Medium-dry to medium: Revolution Renegade, high gloss polish, pin up 4.5 x 4.5
Dry to medium-dry: Black Pure Hammer, 1.500 grit wet sanded, pin up 5.5 x 5.5
Spare: Ice Storm

Arsenal might vary when I know what to expect, there are other balls in store that fill niches (e .g. my SBG that would fit even under the Pure Hammer) - but this is the most verstaile choice that covers 95% of any condition I can imagine.

Another ball that will surely come into play is my brand new Smash zone, which fits right between the Renegade and the FMG. But it is too early to say whether it replaces another ball in the long run or is just an addition that fills the gap between these two.

Start this weekend for all 3, my arsenal is an AMB solid @1000 wet sand and a maxim. I dont like carrying a bunch of bowling balls to league, and the solid handles most stuff I come across as far as THS goes.

Two leagues, one on Brunswick Anvilanes at 8:30pm and another on an AMF surface at 9:30pm.

The Anvilane surface plays slicker.

Anvilanes:

Break Pearl - OOB, pin over the ring finger and the MB at 45 degress.  Will use this to open up the lanes if need be.

Pluto - OOB, pin next to the ring finger over the CG (4x4).  Will use this to read the lanes and decide what move to make next.

Mystic - Polish scuffed off with a gray scotchbright, pin over the ring finger over the CG. (4.5x4.5)

Masterpiece - OOB (or close to it) pin over ring and slightly to the right, CG closer to grip center. (4x4.5)

Dryer AMFs:

Enriched Uranium - pin over ring finger and the CG is out right about an inch from that. (5x4) Will attempt to read the lanes with this ball to decide what move to make next.

Masterpiece - same as above

Mercury - pin under ring finger and the CG is out right about an inch. (5x4)

May put the Code with a label drill and the polish scuffed off in the Pluto's place, not certain.

Right now I have:

Frankie May Gryphon 4X3 hit with burgandy scotch brite
Gladiator Solid 4X3 2000 abralon
Immortal Pearl don't remember the layout 4000 abralon no polish (yet)
Ogre Pearl 5X4-1/2 2000 abralon with light polish
B/G Centaur 1:30 label drill box finish
Maxim Spare ball

I also have a Lane #1 Enriched Uranium, Ebonite Gamebreaker and Hammer Blackwidow Bite to mess with.

Looking at rounding it out this year with the Ogre Particle and SS.  I really want to try VBP's particle cover.  I also need something longer than the Ogre Pearl that will recovery on the back.  The B/G is drilled to tame IMO for this.  I drilled a friends with a 4x4 stack drilling and that thing is a different beast.  I may plug mine up and try something like that.  Although I can't complain about the smooth consistant reaction the ball has!!!

We started our league last Friday night. The house where I bowl decided to go to wood lanes from synthetic. I have been told that the lanes were a little more oily right now. I didn't bowl last week but I did show up later as I am the league secretary. My team was on lanes 1-2 and from what I saw, there wasn't any oil at all. The guys said they were very dry from shadow balls to start. Now guys from the middle of the house (lanes 7-8 to 13-14) said there lanes were a little slick so I guess I am going to have to decide on what to take with me. I thought going back to wood that there would be more friction earlier and the ball would hook more and make a more aggresive move sooner.

I am probably going to take my stuff from last year which consists of the following:

Black Widow Solid
Black Widow Bite
No Mercy
Toxic
D/T Special EFX pearl
Orbit Extreme - Original not the ones AMF sells now
Bud spare ball

I picked up a Columbia Jynx over the summer and I would like to try it out and see how it handles the new surface. If I need something for the drier condition I can always pull out the urethane Black Rhino or the Columbia U-Dot. I also have a Columbia Cuda/C if I need to use it.

After first night on the dryer AMF surface I only need one ball.

My Mercury

Or....buy a B/G Centaur, drill it weak, scuff it to 4000, and polish the cover.  I just might do it.
