Ogre or another Visionary choice, but...
« on: March 09, 2007, 11:27:06 PM »
I'm looking into Visionary and have been advised to try the Ogre. I'm a low-rev lefty who only uses symetrical because I can't get asyms to lose rotation and start hooking... I have terrible luck with anything less than Rg of 2.50 and a diff less than .50 based on my high rotation (> 60) and subsequent skid issues. This Rg of 2.59 and diff of .02x sounds like the anti-thesis of what I need to try.

Thoughts on whether I should run and hide from this ball or perhaps think of another in the Visionary line?

Nationals next week, time to get serious....

You are seeking a ball for Natl's?  What line are you able to play there?  Out is usaully where most lefties that score well play at Natl's.  Twig with some speed or?  Need more info.

IMO......Ogre is very nice ball smooth early rolling, great for THS wet/dry as it will even it out.

I've had my best luck in past years playing straight up around 5-6. Usually work the reaction by changing speed as much or more than changing line... Twig with a little speed is where I plan to start, yes.

lefty50,

After reading your profile and amount of axis rotation does your ball break off the oil line at Natl's over reading or reacting off the dry?  What is your tilt?

For a low rev lefty I am uncertain if the Ogre is the right ball for you at Natl's.  It will start up early and I am hearing there is a decent amount of oil at Reno this year.  250-275 RPM's isn't that bad to play down and in...maybe try more up the back of the ball instead of off the side with a ball like the Ogre would make sense to me.  One good thing about the Ogre is that you are not going to get a massive flare if that's what yo are looking for.....you'd have to adjust cover to your technique and how you want to play them.

I can honestly say that I've never crossed over in 17 years of Nationals... Breaking off the dry is not a problem, getting up to the pocket typically is the main concern... Starting up early sounds good to me though???

It will roll early especially a bit duller.  I can't see to many using it OOB but I don't know your game well enough.

Frankie May Gryphon could be another choice rolls earlier with arc motion like Ogre.  More differential and more flare.  Intended for a tad more oil than Ogre IMO.  Ogre is not a weak ball just because differential isn't high.  Eradicator cover is strong.
