I don't know where you get these rumors, but you need to check your source....LOL.
I did drill up another Ogre Urethane yesterday for my Wed night league. Over the past few weeks I have had to begin the night playing around 25 to 7 with the Gladiator Solid (5.5"x3" with a weighthole to zero the statics out), and with the oil they are using the pattern breaks down pretty quickly. Typically by the end of the second game, I am in around 30-32 trying to push it down the lane as much as I can to stay in the pocket.
Last night I used the OU for the first time since we did our testing process on the ball, and was pleasantly suprised on how much I could square up. I was able to start the night playing about 12 to 7 and really didn't have to change my line very much throughout the night. I ended the night playing around 15 to 10 with a nice smooth arc to the pocket.
The only drawback that I had with the ball was trying to get my muscle memory to remember what it was like playing this straight, while still being able to use my normal release. Typically when I move outside, I have to completely change my hand position, and virtually eliminate my revolutions on the ball. With the OU I was able to use my normal release and only playing a 5 board swing was an experience I haven't had in quite a while.
Carry percentage on pocket shots was very good.... I only left 2 10 pins all night. Still left a few solid 9's but not as many as with the rest of my equipment. Another blessing that I found with this ball is that I did not leave any of my typical designer splits like the 3-4-6-7-9-10 (which is a weekly event for me because of the extreme entry angle).
It may take me a couple weeks to get used to the fact that I don't have to swing it 30 boards, but I can see myself putting up some pretty good numbers with this ball.
