First Visionary
« on: September 19, 2005, 11:06:43 PM »
Hello, I am interested in trying visionary for a change. If I like the ball, I might even join the test staff. So here's where I could use some help.
I'm looking for a Medium condition ball (med-heavy or med-light) for regular leagues. Typical shot becomes wet/dry fairly quickly. I would consider the lanes more on the heavy side. Also, I'm most comfortable playing inside lines.
My information is in my profile. Thanks, Sikxer

Sikxer--My game is a lot like yours and I've found the Violet to be very easy to use on THS/leagues.  How you lay it out depends on your average lane condition you'd like to use it on.

The other Visionary balls to look at for these kind of conditions are the AMB Pearl and G-3 both medium balls.

I agree with scott

I would suggest the Charcoal, but seeing as they don't make it anymore

Just bought me a Violet for the same condition, Drilled it strong with cg in palm and pin kicked out a bit.  I have a very similar game to your's (from the description in your profile) and so far it has been a great ball.  Haven't tried it on the shot I got it for yet (Saturday Morning Juniors) but I'll repost after league.  So far for me it has a VERY controllable reaction.  doesn't overreact on the dry like some of my other equipment does.  Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning toward a violet or g-3 with same drilling that's on my favorite big time... Pin below ring finger, cg in palm. No weight hole. Gives me good mid-lane reaction with strong arc on the back.
Any other thoughts about drilling?

Sikxer--Not knowing exactly what you bowl on but layout seems good.  G-3 will move somewhat harder on backend than Violet being that G-3 is pearlized reactive vs. solid reactive and the Gryphon core is slightly more dynamic <more differential> at least that's the way I look at them.  You may need a bit stronger layout after transition for carry down depending on lane condition and your technique to be able to carry.  I like both balls.

Scott, I do see that (carry down/less carry) quite a bit so maybe a leverage stacked or 11:00 then might be better, correct?

Sikxer,

Your comment about playing the inside lines has caught my eye and the fact that you are running into carrydown that is causing your equipment to burn up early and not have enough juice left to combat the oil that has moved.

In these cases it's almost imperative that you go with something stacked.  Unless you have the right surface on a ball that is drilled ARC you will have more forgiveness in a Stack Drill.

I would recommend that if you like moving left and swinging the ball, a G-3 is probably the best that Visionary has to offer.  Since you describe yourself as Medium Revs and Axis Tilt, I would say a G-3 at about 4 or 4 1/2 from your axis should work great.  If you want to ensure a strong moving backend then go with the 4 inch Pin to PAP layout and stack the CG.  I would get a ball whose pin is anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 (pin to cg) but not further.

Couple questions:

Are you looking for this ball to replace something in your bag?
Is there a ball you are trying to find a compliment for, if so, what is it and what is the layout on the ball?

Good point Steve. I am looking for something between my two big times and my sonic x. First big time is as described above w/sheen finish, second is stacked leverage w/1000g abralon. The sonic x is pin above ring cg near center of grip.
