Title: Frankie vs Mario

I just recieved my balls this weekend and I am getting ready to make a new
arsenal.

I was looking for input as to which approach to take.

Frankie May has his Perfect 3 which is basically:

1.  Ball Drilled pin 3-3/8 cg kicked out to 10:30 (he calls it control)
2.  Ball Drilled pin 4-1/2 cg stacked under (he calls this one flip?)
3.  Ball Drilled pin 4-1/2 cg around the palm (he calls this one arc)

Mario has the following:

In a nut shell you pick your favorite pin to pap distance, then adjust using different coverstocs, and Mass Bias positions.

For the example they use 4.5" pin to pap and a fav layout of 12:00.

I'm Looking at drilling a:

charcoal executioner(will be polished or sanded as needed)
Frankie May (Test ball)
AMB Solid (test ball)

once I decide which core I like I will buy a few more and lay them out accourdingly.

What type of bowling will you be doing? Do you know the lane conditions that you encounter on a regular basis? Do you know what kinds of ball roll characteristics you need to excel on these different lane conditions?

Frankies method seems ok for a guy with plenty of speed (like you). However, I don't know if that will give you enough variation will just those pin placements. Why not try 3 3/8, 4 1/2, and 5 1/2 with balance holes to compensate for the reaction after drilling that you want to create? Should give you different looks out of the balls, and 5 1/2 seems to be a distance used on a lot of tougher conditions to control flare and backend reaction yet still provide a bit of pop (coupled with a low pin placement).

hmmmm,
I might try the 5-1/2 although I have never tried
a layout that far out before.

I typically drill my equipment leverage, so on the first pass
the amb, and frankie will be drilled leverage.  I will adjust
the coverstocks to see what kind of reactions I get.

I am thinking that I will be on heavier oil shots (that is what the frankie, and amb are for)

Drilling with the pin at that distance should give the ball a little more natural length, but a lot of times you will adjust the surface to give it length with a predictable backend. Should tame those balls down very nicely to make them nice medium oilers.

don't tame the amb centaur down, that ball is a beast, shot 785 with mine out of the box, that ball can give length and even though it is advertised as a "skid snap" ball it is still very predictable

The Amb solid is an awesome ball 825 out of the box.

Mine is drilled pin 4-1/2 to axis and cg on the strong line

I have a low track 3-1/2

This ball gives a great read and is predictable in its transition it is not too angular
