G-3 gryphon
« on: December 07, 2009, 04:56:05 PM »
due to biceps tendonitis i have to move down in weight from 16 to 14 lbs. i have been throwing a green gargoyle which i absolutely love. i have been looking for a 14lb GG but i havent been able to find one. i came across the G-3 in 14 lbs. and i was wondering if this ball is similar to the Green Gargoyle. also i was thinking of drilling the G-3 rico and was wondering what type of reaction that would give me. thanks in advance.

I just drilled a G-3 , but havent used it yet. I will try it tonight. I had a GG before it was simular to my Ogre SS. From what i have read the G-3 is the strongest backend ball Visionary has made.

All things being equal GG is longer than G-3.  G-3 can read the mids better than a Greenie.

Although I have both of these balls, I rarely get to use either one at our house due to the heavier oil I see on league nights. Most nights my Burgundy Gryphon is first out of the bag! However, when I do get a chance to throw them, I find the same thing Scott does- GG much longer, G-3 reading the mids much better. Overall hook is very similar if you have some backends, and carry is typical Visionary (awesome). You just missed an auction for a NIB 14lb G-3 on E-bay. Ball went for $84! Great deal. I picked up a NIB 14lb Blue Sparkle Gryphon that I drilled up modified Rico and really haven't had a chance to use it much. Gives a controlled, arcing type movement that reminds me of old-school urethane. Still looking for a Frankie May to complete my all-Gryphon lineup!!!

Agreed, Ogre SS is a much closer match up to the Green Gargoyle.

Hey spike that was me that just won on ebay for 84 dollars.

I am gonna try it tonight and give a better response to its reaction tomorrow. I will add a pick of the layout as well

Got a great ball at a great price! If you have any backends at all, the ball is a monster. You won't be disappointed in the G-3.

Last week i was crossing 20 @ the arrows and 5 at the break point with my Ogre SS. If this ball is any stronger i will love it.

More flare and move off the break point and should read mids earlier comparing apples to apples.  I can't use my 16 lb. G-3 any longer just because I don't have the oomph to get it down the lane anymore.   For those that can I don't think you'll find a better pearl Vis. ball and they have produced many.

First impression, as far lane condition we didnt have the normal strong bump off the corners like we usually do.

Out the box i shoot 234 left 7-9 in the 2nd frame & 7-10 in the 8th frame.
2nd game 246 , 7 pin in the 4th frame , 10 pin in the 10th and wiffed it.
3rd game i switch to my Ogre SS for a comparison finished 212 - 692 for the set.

The G-3 can read the mid alot better & sooner then the Ogre SS. The back end move was close to the SS but the pin action from the G-3 was amazing. I had bowlers asking me how do i get the messengers to fly so hard & fast. My response was buy Visionary...

Overall i give it a thumbs up, it clears the heads with ease , reads the mids very well and has a very strong back end. It does remind me of the V2 alot. Infact my brother in law was using his Gamebeaker on the same pair and the reaction from both where very close.
