G3 - Two toned Gryphon?
« on: November 07, 2003, 02:11:57 AM »
Just saw that a new topic for this ball was started on the Visionary website but did not see any info there.  Anyone have any info on this ball?

Badger856 mentioned there would be another Gryphon coming out.  All he stated or knew of was it would go longer and have more backend then the Blue Sparkle.

From what I've read on here in the past few weeks, there is slated to be four Gryphons altogether.  This one is supposed to fit inbetween the Blue and Burgundy.

Thanks, Anthony.  I guess that the G3 stands for the 3rd Gryphon or Gryphon 3.  Probably a resin ball then.

Sure thing, I wish I knew more about it myself.  Needless to say the Gryphon series made enough impact on me to where I'll buy it anyway.

Did you hear what color(s) it would be yet?

It's to bad that some one from Visionary like one fo the Wonders doesn't frequent this forum like Roger From Roto and Phil from DT do.  Makes them more viable in a way.  I know the Wonders will answer your phone questions....but being more available to the masses is one way to sell more equipment.

No, I have no idea of what the colors will be.

I finally got to use my Blue Sparkle Gryphon tonight.  Usually dont use it because I find something else that works better but the lanes were drier tonight more than normal.  Started with the Pink Raspberry C2 and shot a clean 194.  Couldnt find a line that would hold.  Finally in the 3rd frame of the 2nd game I switched to the Blue Gryphon and finished with 230 and 220.  I was able to play a more direct line with the BG but it had great carry tonight.  Only had one split in each of those games and that was because I sent the BG out too wide and when it came back, it came in too heavy.

If Visionary comes out with a Gryphon that fits between the Blue and the Burgundy, I will buy it and try it.  And probably like it.

I find that my Gryphon, being sanded down to 800 grit works wonders on many conditions.  To me it compliments my Hercules in reaction, which is very controlled, stable, and smooth.  The major obvious difference is the Gryphon gets more length and a bigger backend.  I tend to use it in my scratch match play league which starts at 10pm, and it works well, generally holding a line playing 20-12.

I will end up buying the whole set sooner or later.

There's a full page ad in the Nov. issue of Bowlers' Journal.  It appears to be a red/blue swirl.

Leroy--I haven't seen the piece in Bowler's Journal.  Can you give us a brief rundown?  Is it reactive?  Pearl or solid?  Anything lese?

Thanks,

Correct me if I am wrong, but both the Burgandy and Blue Sparkle have the same core......yes?  So, I am wondering how this G3 will be longer other than the use of a pearl type coverstock, if it uses the same early rolling core.

What's everybody think?

Thanks Bob7.  Sure looks like the same core on the website.  Wondered how they get more differential.  You will agree they both roll early?

Like Bob7 said, the cores are different but don't really "look" different.  The actual Burgundy's inner core that's surrounded by the wrap is shaped differently, on the verge of an hour glass appearance, where the Blue Sparkle is more "blocky" for a lack of better words.

Yes, I see that A_P_K as I looked closer.  Thanks.  It will be interesting how they get more length and angularity to the G3.  I believe all the Gargoyle cores are the same.  Visionary got a lot more length and angle on the Greenie.

I am awaiting my chance to throw the Green Gargoyle, I just have too much equipment to cycle through for leagues.

If you haven't thrown the Blue Sparkle Gryphon, it is a very versatile and forgivable ball, but not for light oils.  It's a good thing Visionary decided to put out a "weaker" version of the Gryphon because so far it's one of the best "house" balls I've ever thrown.
