Ogre of the Year-2007
« on: November 09, 2007, 01:29:36 AM »
We've got a month and a half left of 2007.  Of all the Visionary Ogre's that came out this year 2007 which is your fav?  They all came out this year.

Solid
Pearl
SS

Why do you like it better than the others?  What pattern are you bowling on mainly when using your favorite Ogre?  What's your bowling style/technique?  RH or LH?  High or low scores with them to report?  Anything else to add?

BTW...Vis. still has to bring out a particle Ogre from what the scuttlebutt is saying. Tghere is nothing on the approved USBC list so please don't start asking cuz it's apparently a ways out.

For me, it is my Ogre Solid at 2000 abralon. I like this ball better than the others because this ball just rolls so smooth and consistent. I am a rh tweener with average speed so this ball fits the bill for me perfectly.

It is my go-to ball. Anytime I am having difficulty on the lanes, I pull this out and am able to get a read on what the lanes are doing. I've told many people that the Ogre is pretty close to the best ball I've ever owned. The only thing that prevents it from being just that is I have no honor scores with it....yet!!

My high game to date with it is a 264 and I have been consistently shooting 640-660 with it over the past 4 weeks.

I like the Pearl as well, but I often have carry issues with the Pearl....lots of solid 9 pins. I don't have an SS yet, but that one will be ordered soon.

Me too! Except mine is oob condition and I don't have the pearl. Gives me good feed back on when I need to switch the the Green Gargoyle.

bowl on a 40' blend older bruns synth. Righty,pap 5over-1/2dwn,pure tweener,prefer to swing/slightswing shot.

O.S. Drilled-3.5X60* pin even and right of ring tried every imagionable cover prep. When it gets there WOW other wise leave it at home for a heavier shot w/some drier backs.

O.P.1 Drilled-3.5X5 oob, pin down and right of ring. Best Damn pearl I've ever put on my hand and I have had all of the hype balls just no comparison. Have not shot huge #'s 257 HG,660-680 series so I'm not complaining. Strength is the consistancy of this balls reaction. Pricless.

O.P.2 Drilled 5X4 oob, pin over bridge up 1.5", mb 1 1/2" right thumb, Perfect compliment to the O.P. above 3' longer slightly sharper. can get a squirty on carry down.

O.SS  Drilled 4X60* pin over oob, On a run of the mill THS this ball is awesome just needs dry to preform at top capicity not as snappy as I had thought but very strong and powerful. If the shot gets burnt and dirty this ball will shine as long as the carry down is mimimal. Don't use it as much due to having a B/G Centaur that I have taken as strong a liking to as my O.P's.

O.K. to the quick: O.P. best of the Ogres by far for me,then SS,lastly O.S.

very interested in what this new particle is gonna be Pearl or Solid if it's a pearl I'm on it like stink on dooty.

It's hard to answer without throwing them all. . . But I have to say I love my Ogre Pearl!!!  I would love to get the other two and see how they compliment each other.  Right now the OP is the first out of the bag.  I've only used it in our scratch league, THS pattern.  Scores have been great.  No honor scores yet but close so far.  I absolutely love the ball right now.  I hope to get the OS for Christmas, maybe both if I'm lucky!!!!

Yes I do, The Ogre Pearl, for me isn't as skid/flip.  It's a little more predictable.  Both balls are drilled very similar too, pin over the ring finger and the cg kicked out.

Here's my take on it.  Stats. are in my profile.

I've got all three.  Have shot great scores with all of them and they are niche balls...well the Solid and SS anyway IMO.  Ogre Pearl handles a lot of area and would probably work well for just about anybody.

SS is true skid snap.  Twice now I didn't bring this ball and paid for not having it along.

Solid good ball but I find myself using it less and less.  Other balls do a better job for me.  Best condition to use a Solid on for me is a wet/dry THS with a good puddle in the middle.  Feed it into the dry at 2000 ab and it smoothes out the over under and hits hard enough until some carry down.  Doesn't have enough motor with .029 diff to come off a flatter/blended pattern and doesn't give much miss room on those conditions. IS longer pin to PAP or a Centaur Solid works better.

Good price point balls.  If, I was going to get one to try them it would be an Ogre Pearl.  Middle of the road arcing pearl.

Stats
RH
Power tweener, revs with minimal effort (leverage and timing).
Lane conditions are medium to medium light.
3 honor scores so far between the 2 balls.

I have the Pearl and the SS, both drilled pin over ring and CG stacked below.

For me, the Pearl is a true benchmark ball. I have used it playing anywhere from 28 to 10 with good results. Works well with different hand positions and speed changes. I have recommended it to 3 of my friends and they all love the reaction and carry it provides.

The SS is my go to ball when the lanes are opened up a bit. It can get a little touchy when the lanes transition so I normally put it away when that happens. An ABSOLUTE monster on swing shots with a defined bank area. Ball's hit is second to none on the right condition.

I like the Pearl more of the two because it is more versatile for me. But the SS is a close 2nd based on what it can do when the lanes open up.

Thanks Scott.

A month ago I would have said the SS was my fav, but after a few games on different conditions, the Pearl has won me over.

I started with a Mystic drilled pin over middle finger and cg in palm yesterday in shadow( LOL, does anyone remember shadow, warmups without pins??) I was on the strangest pair in the house (1 and 2). Lane 2 always has a hang spot and muddled backend. Lane 1 always hooks 5 boards more and the backend is like sandpaper.

The Mystic was money on the left lane but a huge hit or miss on the right. I pulled out the OP and it really toned down the reaction on lane 2. Like someone had stated, it is almost like it is a particle pearl. It definitely makes a move, but doesn't charge off the bank like some reactives.

I am considering drilling another a bit stronger.

The Ogre line is a real hidden gem.

I loved it when shadow balls were used in warm ups/practice.  Everybody got more shots in than the norm 5 man league now.  yes, you may not see how you might carry but it's the way to go if the machines can be set up that way.

The good old days of shadow. I am tall enough that I could actually see the markings where the pins were placed so I always knew if I was between the 1 and 3 pins. With some of the new pin decks, those markings are now gone.

Had someone rerack in practice last night........................On the first ball she threw.

I said wow, you must really warm up fast!!

I haven't done shadow since Juniors. Right now in practice I just throw and get my strike line. If I leave a spare I will still throw my strike ball. Everyone on the other teams says "Just missed it, or practice some more and you get those spares". I just tell them, I'm not shooting for them, just throwing my strike. Cause I can get spares.

and this has to do with the ogre of the year how......?
