Gladiator = Forgiving = Great Ball!!
« on: March 12, 2008, 01:19:06 PM »
Hi All,

Punched up my new gladiator tonight as soon as i got home to take to league tonight...

http://www.putfile.com/album/180863

Layout is 4 x 3 with a hole down on my VAL

First Impression:

This ball is not going to be about how much it hooks...although it can handle some oil, i wouldnt classify it in the hook monster category of say a Cell or a Black Widow Bite...What it is about is a quality i love in a ball - Forgiveness!

A few shots tonight i grabbed at the bottom and the ball held off...i fluffed a few and they still came back...now is this the "wonder" ball we are all looking for?  no, but it sure made me feel good about myself haha

Started out playing closer to the track then once they broke down started bumping left...the best part you ask?  it still kicked out the corners, no matter where i played i could still get the ball to roll nicely through the deck...similar to (dare i say it?) THE CELL??

I think the Cell is going to be the new standard in hook and continuation so lets compare...this ball continues very similar to the cell through the deck (holds back maybe a little more), and is just about as forgiving if not more than cell...it does not hook as much as the cell that i will say with confidence...

shot 696 out of the box and prolly should have switched in the last game (212)because the ball started to read too early...but having that new ball fever i toughed it out and finished the set with it...cant wait for the pearl!

Conclusion:

In the end, from my first impression VBP has a winner with this one...people are just going to have to get it in their heads that they dont need to hook the lane with the latest hook in the box...as controllable as this ball is i can see it being a good PBA/Sport shot ball...

Video coming next week!

Thanks for reading...

nice bowling.

this is the reason i think i will never throw anything but companies like visionary and lane master. quality over quantity.

my favorite ball isnt a hook monster... but its like they say "to own one... is to love one"

That's some major kick to the right and a large X hole <which you'd need>.  Must have big time oiled heads to need that much roll?

scotts33,

I love rolly stuff...and that layout works well on my visionary stuff, i have a ogre pearl drilled the same way which reads the lane so nicely no matter what is out there...like i said tho i prolly should have switched when the ball started reading to early

Sure the black widow pearls and kinetics are fun to throw, but normally i like to see a softer transition from wet to dry

Jturley and Lillen,

I had my ogre solid (same layout) with me but did not get to throw it...when i do get to compare (which may not be till i shoot the video) i will let you know...im thinking that the gladiator is going to allow me to play farther in and round the corner...i know with my old ogre sometimes it wasnt the best if i had to circle too many boards, great for playing straighter tho...but we shall see

i never threw the AMB solid so i couldnt tell you on that one...

I would say the AMB has more backend while the ogre hooks more overall. The verdict is still out on the ogre, its hit or miss for me. Any way I cant wait to see the new video.

I matched up well with the one i sold you rusty but yea with that layout for me it was kind of hit or miss, but i never played with the surface...then i bought another one that i liked even better with the same layout as the gladiator, but that one was stolen at a tournament (figures the ball i pay for gets stolen lol) so now im on my 3rd solid ogre with the same layout as the gladiator (again) that i will be comparing to in the video
