I think my B/G centaur went through "phasing"
« on: March 10, 2008, 01:27:59 PM »
I brought in my centaur after league.  When I woke up next morning a quarter of the ball has turn off white!  Looking at old posts it looks like it won't affect ball reaction, but I find it strange because I did not give it a hot water bath or  have it in varying temperatures.  Has this ever happened to anyone?

Does this mean you normally leave your equipment in your vehicle?

Has the ball ever been soaked/cleaned?

No, I actually keep it in a locker at the alley, but just decided to bring it home. I did nothing different, which makes it so odd. Besides cleaning it with simple green mixture after league that is the most extensive cleaning I have done with the ball so far.

Try cleaning it with a strong alcohol or a regular bowling ball cleaner. I've had balls turn partially white-ish before, just not a Centaur. I was able to clean them all back to the original appearance with bowling ball cleaner.

was your locker mounted on an outside wall? I had a locker at my center, pulled the ball out and it was cold, ball was off color and everything.  It was on an outside wall.

I think Simple Green can do goofy things color wise to equipment.  I used a Simple Green mixture once soaking my Erase-It and it turned an off white after a hot water soak.  I quit using it for that reason.  I use Legends cleaner right after bowling at the center.

I too have seen simple green change the colors of balls turning them into white colors or changing a pearl ball to look morelike a solid. I would suggest that you get rid of the simple green. the cheapest way to clean your ball is a hot water bath . I have seen people in the past including myself use Windex to clean and it did a nice job.

Ah, yet another reason for which I am glad that I have decided NOT to use any Simple Green on my bowing balls!

Hot water degreasing I have been using Dawn.....in a 5 gal. pail.  Seems to work well and doesn't dis-color equipment.

The locker is located in the center of the building so it is not near the outside walls.  I guess I may just stop using the simple green mixture.  I had been using a simple green mixture for about a year now, and its very diluted with no problems.
