Gladiator Pearl Mini Review...Actual Pictures Inside!
« on: April 13, 2008, 11:15:40 PM »
Hi All,

Special thanks to Jason for getting this piece out to me early.  I went with the same layout as my gladiator solid.

On Edit: PICTURES!

http://www.putfile.com/album/185298

First off this thing is really sweet looking, this thing has great shelf appeal...everyone who saw it asked what i was throwing and that they really liked the colors...i will get pictures up later tonight

As far as reaction goes its exactly what i thought it would be...a longer more angular version of the gladiator.  The move it makes in the back reminds me of an Ogre SS, but a little more controllable.  It reads the midlanes much better than the SS also.  I was able to get in with it pretty easily and wheel it off the dry without a problem, as long as it saw dry it made a big move in the backend...

Like all polished pearls tho, carrydown was not its friend...im anxious to knock the polish off and see what it can do, but i like the OOB reaction alot so i may leave it alone for awhile and just let it track up and see what happens

In the end, it seems like a combination of the control of a gladiator with the backend motion of an SS...another great ball from V B P!

Look for a video in the next few weeks...

Nice looking ball but I think taking the photos using the flash probably made the ball look less colourful...

But I understand if it was to dark so you had to use the flash..

I must ask (if at all possible to answer from experience):

Gladiator Pearl vs. Green Gargoyle?

I ask this, as I haven't used any newer Visionary (have only used Gargoyles and older...except for Purple Ice Executioner....and that was just bad bowler/ball combo). I am interested in a newer ball from VBP, and was very impressed with how the Gladiator Solid looked at Nationals booth, but didn't have funds at the time. Probably trading locally for an Ogre Solid, but would like to pick up a new VBP pearl as well. Guy was offering his Ogre SS to me, but figured if you could gimme an idea as to how your new beauty would compare to (arguably) the best Visionary pearl ever, then i would gladly take in any knowledge avaliable. Thanks for your time...

Also, after looking at the pics, looks EXACTLY like a Backyard Bully that my roommate owns (with different logos...OBVIOUSLY ).

PS...sorry for the double post.

Big Willy Style; FYI I talked to Frankie May while I was
at the USBC and he said the Ogre SS uses the Green
Gargoyle coverstock. Hope this helps.

Hey dzrtrnr,

Just to clarify, the SS Ogre uses a material pretty similar to that of the Green Gargoyle, but they are not the same.  The general backbone of the reactive urethane is pretty similar, but there are different additives that give the cover slightly different characteristics.

I watched Mvpbowler throw the Gladiator Pearl last night it is pretty ugly but sure does roll well, I will be getting one of these and solid next month.

For mid priced balls they roll very good smooth and great hit to them both, The GP smoothed the pattern out it was not a big jumpy type of move even with the crazy rev rate George has.

Gladiator Pearl is exactly what we claim it is. An Ogre Pearl on steroids!! When I could leave a bucket with the OP, the GP was high flush in the hole! I bowled on a decent amount of oil last nite and it worked out pretty good! Shot 268-253 with it and then they broke down and I pulled out the OP and couldn't get the corners out. But I look forward to throwing this ball alot more!!

Layed out it 5 x 4 with a medium hole down to get it started up a little earlier. I will work on getting a picture up.

From another thread, the words from "Videoballreviews":

quote:
I believe its assymetrical by design, but the MB strength (int. diff) is not strong enough to warrant marking a MB...

I was talking with Jason and he said the reaction can be fine tuned by moving the mohawk around...just imagine a strip 2" wide running through the pin and cg...I would love to drill up like 4 or 5 of these and move that MoHawk around and turn it different angles to see what slight variations i could come up with...but like scotts said all standard symmetrical layouts will work, jason also told me he has one drilled label and he really likes the way it rolls, i have been thinking about doing this with my second one...if i do i will let you all know how it works

In comparing the Glad Pearl to the Green Gargoyle, the GP is going to be way stronger.  With similar drillings and cover prep, my SS Ogre is a couple feet sooner and a touch more controllable at the breakpoint than the GG.  Now, the Gladiator Pearl is going to handle more oil than the other two balls mentioned above.  I would expect the Glads to be a compromise between the Executioners and the AMBs since both lines are discontinued.

thank you for the side-by-side.....-by-side ball comparison (though I know that you are basing GP off others experience). I am very interested in getting my hands on a GP, since the 1 problem the GG gives me is that carrydown steals the shot away instantly. 1 minute I'm flushing pocket, and then the next frame on that lane...through the 2 pin. UGH!

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the Ogre also. Can't wait for the GP to hit shelves...got a lotta $$$ coming in May, and can't wait to do the VBP Platinum membership.
