gonna try visionary
« on: August 19, 2008, 07:43:11 AM »
Well after talking with my ball driller. I want to try something new for the upcoming season. So we talked about the Visionary line. I have been a loyal Lane1 user. I throw high revs and between 16.5-18 mph depending on my mood. So what balls should I look at? Want something for all conditions.

charlest,
Have you thrown the ogre solid at 4000 abralon? If so what kind of reaction did you get from it?

Tom,

Most the information about our products is available on the website but I can give you a general run down of the product lines.

AMB line (discontinued due to the change in RG differential rules by the USBC - but still available and legal to use in all USBC competitions - we just can't produce them any more.)

AMB Particle is a very aggressive oil ball.  Designed for heavy oil with an early arc reaction through the entire lane.  Can burn up and die on the back if there's not enough oil or ball speed.  Won't be flippy on the back no matter how it's drilled.
AMB Solid will go longer than the particle and have more backend.  It's designed for med-med/hvy oil with a strong arc reaction.  Can be drilled to roll earlier and more arc or longer with more flip - but won't be snappy.
AMB Bronze Pearl will go the longest of the AMB series and flip more on the backend but because of the flare potential it still won't be a skid/snap reaction.  Good for med to med/light conditions.
******************

IMMORTAL line (discontinued due to the change in RG differential rules by the USBC - but still available and legal to use in all USBC competitions - we just can't produce them any more.)

IMMORTAL solid will hook a little more and little sooner than the AMB solid.  Designed for med-med/hvy oil with a stronger move overall than the AMB.
IMMORTAL pearl will flip a little more on the back for most people than the Bronze because of the cover but can be made to roll earlier than the Bronze with early drillings because of the higher differential.
*******************

GRYPHON line

Frankie May GRYPHON will make a stronger and sharper move on the back than the AMB or IMMORTALs because it doesn't flare as much or roll as soon.  Surface can be easily adjusted to fit most conditions from med/hvy to med/light.  This is a very versatile ball.
G-3 GRYPHON will skate much longer and snap more on the back than the FM Gryphon or either AMB or IMMORTAL pearls.  This ball definitely gets down the lane and then unloads with a kick on the back.  Good for opening up the lanes or when you have to move inside and cover a lot of boards while needing recovery on the backend.  Too hard to control if the lanes are drastically over/under reactions.
*******************

OGRE line

OGRE solid will get down the lane easier than the AMB and IMMORTALs with a good roll and predictable read.  Not quite as strong as the FM Gryphon but still a good med-med/hvy oil ball.
OGRE pearl (purple/black) will go longer than the solid but start sooner and handle oil and carrydown better than the SS Ogre.  Good middle of the road ball to start with - then go to the solid on more oil or the SS on lighter oil.
OGRE SS will skate further than the purple pearl but flip harder on the back.  Like the G-3 its a good ball to open up the lanes or play deeper inside lines needing recovery on the back.  Not quite as strong as the G-3 for most people.
OGRE particle will hook more in the oil than all the other OGRES.  The particles give it more grab than the Ogre solid but it won't burn up early like the AMB particle might.  It is much easier to get down the lane than the AMB particle and offers more backend but it won't handle an extreme flood as well as the AMB particle would. Good for med-hvy oil
*******************

GLADIATOR line

GLADIATOR solid will give an earlier midlane roll with a controlled arc reaction.  Starts sooner than the Ogre solid with more of a sweeping arc motion.  Good for evening out the over/under reactions found on touchier conditions.  Good for med-med/hvy oil.
GLADIATOR pearl will go longer and save more energy for a sharper backend then the solid but will still be an arc motion just harder and a little sharper.  Handles longer oil better than a lot of pearls because the core gets it into a roll sooner.  Will start hooking sooner than the SS ogre and even the purple Ogre pearl for most people with a more even predictable reaction than the Ogre line.

All in all -
Crankers needing more control will like the Gladiators and Ogres
Average bowlers will like almost all - preferring Ogres and Gladiators for their control and predictability.
Those needing help hooking the ball will like the AMB, IMMORTAL, and GRYPHONS

Hope this helps,

Jim

I got the expected more length BUT unexpectedly I got considerably more backend that this much (or this little) RG differential (read: Flare) would normally give.

That is why I recommended that grit level and finish.

Ah, I might have to try that when I get my gladiators drilled and see what that is like at 4000.

Second week with my Ogre solid in league was 643 the first week and 727 tonight. The ball rolls early with a gradual, continuous arch and just shatters pins. As long as I have some oil on the heads I can crank this thing and just revs up so easily. So I would definitely recommend the Ogre solid (Orange/Black).
I've only seen the purple one thrown a few times and has one strong reaction down the lane. The SS silver one has an awesome reaction on medium/lighter conditions and carries terrific.

The Gladiator Pearl has been great for me since I got it a little over a month ago.  I bowl once a week over the summer, and in the last 5 weeks, I've had a 289, 268, 267, 256, and this last week bowling for first place, I put up 279 and 269 my 2nd and 3rd games.  I love the predictability of this ball and the early rolling (for a pearl) attribute of it.  I had been looking for a ball to replace my Banger Hole Pounder Pearl, as I've soured on that company lately, but I loved that ball.  This one definitely fits the bill, besides, the color combination is unique, and looks good going down the lane.  I've had many questions about the ball already, and request for it down in the proshop.

I'm also planning on getting the Ogre Particle next. (or possibly the Gladiator Solid, but am leaning towards the Ogre) I had the Granite Gargoyle before, and I loved it, but it was a pound light for me.  The fact that the Ogre Particle uses the same covertsock, but is darker so the dirt doesn't show up as much is a plus.

Also, I got my fiance the Ogre solid ealier in the year, and she loves the ball also.  She likes its controllability and roll through the pins.

All in all, very solid releases from Visionary.

It hooks more than any other ball ever, its too much. Rolled out on the 50' pattern (Us open I think it was). I like the other 2 ALOT more.

The PBA's 50' pattern is the Tournament of Champions pattern and the consensus in past years was that while it was plenty long, it was pretty light, too.  If you used an AMB Particle on it, especially in OOB finish, it is not surprising it rolled out.

On the US Open pattern, though, it should work a little better.  The Open uses more oil than the ToC and is usually more of a medium-heavy pattern.
