I am in need of a light oil ball and thinking of trying the Orge SS and when i say light oil i mean light.I am a senior bowler and my speed at max is around 15 mph and i like to play down and in.My pap is 4 1/2 over and 1/2 up.If you think this ball would fit the bill i could use some help in the drilling also.Thanks for any help received.

I think the Blue Green Centaur with polish would be a better choice.

I just picked up a B/G Centaur (from Krumpy actually). I throw it a good 5-7 boards of where i throw my Charcoal Ex. I also throw it more down and in too. I'm not a senior but, I throw the ball around 15.5 mph. I got it as a light oil ball and it has filled the bill exactly.

The other option you might consider if you can find one is a Slate Blue Gargoyle. Visionary discontinued this one but, it was their other light oil ball.

I like the Blue Green Centaur suggestion. Couple of reasons. The solid coverstock is a bit more adjustable than the Destroyer Pearl for most.

It seems to work a bit better for down and inners with it's lower differential than the Ogre SS and milder cover.

Now if you can move in slightly to 3rd arrow to catch some head oil when the track blows out and you need a lil more pop on the backend and you don't have a lot of carrydown the SS would be a good choice.

Layout should be based on your PAP taking all your stats. into account by your driller.

O i would NOT choose the ogre ss. granted I have a somewhat strong release because of my slow ball speed (15-16mph) but even with my modest release I cant seem to use it on anything less then medium unless I really speed it up and play deep (middle arrow or more)

the destoyer coverstock is really amazing how it completely ignores the head oil but the problem is when it hits friction... I dont care what your release is it will go left fast if your on a THS and you throw it into the dry.

I really like the ogre ss and thought id be able to use it on dry but I wrong. id also pick the b/g centaur

If you like to play down and in pick up the B/G Centaur like everyone says. You may need to give her a good polish to work for what you want. Like the other guys have said right now the green monster is your best choice. The ball hits great and has a very nice smooth reaction off the dry. Its so smooth the flaring action is second to none yet it still is very powerfull to knock out the corners - very strong hitting ball, kind of reminds me of a stronger urethane. If you read some reviews, some have been able to play right off the edge and have the ball come up nicely and with how strong balls are today that is a pretty good compliment. Good luck!

well mine is drilled to be strong and early.

drilled full leverage pin down.
pap 4 1/2" by 1/2" up
axis rotation 45-60 degrees
revs somewhere between 250-300 (almost what britton on VBR throws)

I wont mention trajectory as I havent really given this ball a chance yet.

I really didnt buy this ball for dry lanes and im not shocked with how strong I drilled it that it cant be played on the dry without swinging it very deep.

and in no way do I hate my ogre ss, I actually love the reaction... just have to find out where to throw it. my friend loves it and he is able to predict the ball motion im just not used to it yet.

This is what we'd need to know.

I have my SS laid out pin above ring 4.5" pin to PAP and a 80 deg for me this is a great dry lane ball as I can move in and catch some head oil and bank off the break point.

Again for a down and inner that does not like to move inside the Blue Green would be a better choice for most.

I can't say if the B/G would be a good choice because I don't have one, but i can say the SS is by no means a mild ball for dry lanes. I have my ogre pearl and my SS drilled the same, pin up and to the right of the ring finger drilled stacked with a 3 inch pin. for the house shot I bowl on I can use both balls with my feet at the same starting point. With the blurple I go 20-10 around 45 ft. with the SS I go 20-5 around 47 feet. I love it having a 1-2 combo like that because I can always get one of them to carry great.

Alex,

I can't agree more with the recommendations of these posters. The B/G Centaur is the proper ball for the condition and style of play you are in search of. To assist further I would recommend an ARC layout with the CG in your palm. This will keep the ball rolling smoothly. A layout of 4 1/2 inches should be enough from your PAP.

I've bowled extremely well with my B/G using it for DOWN & IN play. Best of luck and let us know how it works out.

well its hard to mention trajectory when:

1. you have multiple balls that cover a said condition so practice with it has been seldom.

2. the times i did try it I was standing pretty deep. I know I was throwing over the third arrow out to about 10 and it was hitting too high (sometimes Brooklyn). but i have a feeling if I got it a little further right to about 7 or even 5 it would have been pocket shots.

3. for the first few times trying it... it didnt fit me too well.

see for me dry lanes around here means the head oil drys up and the backends usually get sloppy (not like a tournament shot that starts off dry)

so a ball like the ogre ss can be a nightmare to me as it hits friction early. but it sure does glide thru the heads even during dried up heads. I love the ball but would rather have less ball like the b/g on dry lanes (even clean lanes with head oil) just easier to deal with for me.
