has anyone thrown both of these balls? I really like the green gargoyle and ive had some difficulty finding a secong green gargoyle. In this area lanes are normally dry to medium,I was wondering how a pin down ogre ss would compliment my greenie stacked right next to ring finger with cg down and center of palm?

Jason, one of the Wonders family and a Visionary tech rep/person, has stated here in the past that the Ogre SS is slightly stronger than the Green Meanie. As I see/understand what he was trying to say, they're not identical, but in/on today's oil, the Ogre SS takes the place of the Green Gargoyle.
That said, I believe you'd have NOT ONLY to drill them differently, BUT ALSO you would have to modify one of their surfaces to get them to complement each other. And there are already balls, like the Ogre Pearl or the Gladiator Pearl, to do that.

I asked Jason a similar question and he put me in touch with Jim, their drilling tech guy. Jim told me that the Ogre core was slightly tamer/smoother than the Gargoyle core, and that the SS had a tendency for most people to store energy better than the GG, thus covering a few more boards on the backend but also being a little smoother about it.
It sounds to me like the SS would be a nice compliment, probably smoother with a little more overall hook on certain conditions.

I haven't thrown or seen the Ogre SS, but do know the Green Gargoyle. How Jim (I don't doubt his knowledge) can say the Ogre SS stores energy better than the GG, I don't understand. Unless the cover was modified, the GG barely even reads the midlane, no less the heads, at all.
The Ogre core is higher RG and lower diff, making any cover flippier than if wrapped around a Gargoyle core, but the GG's cover was one of the flippiest made. I think it balanced off whatever advantage the Gargoyle's core might have allowed the GG. Skid/flip (skid/snap) was the essence of the Green Gargoyle, in my experience (2 balls, 2 drillings).
I wonder if they'd be complements without changing drilling AND surface.

I have both balls that are drilled identical (4 1/2 stacked) and I can tell you from experience that the SS Ogre looks like it is a couple feet shorter at the breakpoint and slightly smoother than the GG. The Gargoyle for me, looks cleaner down the lane and a more defined flip at the breakpoint. Also, the SS seems to handle carrydown and heavier medium conditions better than the GG. Hope this helps.

Just saw this thread. I have both the GG and SS although not exactly the same drill very close. Both pin above my ring.
I'd completely agree with Steve/TwoHands. I see basically the same reaction he said in this thread. Do remember that Steve is a very high rev player and I am a basic tweener.
I tend to use the SS after a ball like the Solid Glad or another solid ball and the track breaks down and you want to move inside a small bit but still hold the same angle to the pocket for same carry.

I like both balls. I have had 8 years experience with the GG. So, it would be easier to say that it is my favorite of the two. I have ALOT of honor scores with that ball to the point where I bought a new one this year out in Albuquerque. Both balls allow me to open up the lane and get inside everyone else to create my own room. It just depends on how violent the reaction is on the GG that depends on whether or not I pull out the SS. But, on medium to drier conditions, you can't go wrong with either ball.
