Title: How to drill my newly received Charcoal Executioner???
Post by: TheBowlingKid25 on September 30, 2004, 07:15:26 AM

Charcoal 2 - http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNTgzNjYyNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg

Ways I was thinking of drilling it - http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNTgzNjU5NnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg

Those are 2 ways I was thinking of drilling it, but not exactly, maybe have the pin a little farther out from the ring finger or move the CG around.

Well? I finally got this thing after a month and a half of hassle with stupid UPS, how should I drill it? Its gonna be my heavy oil control ball, so check out the ways I was thinking. Im not totally sure what a good control drilling is, so please give me suggestions.

Another suggestion Not_Enuff_Carry gave me is pin under middle finger, cg swung out, how does that sound?

That's what I have on my diesel particle, except the pin is under the ring, since I don't have enough revs for the middle finger.  Pretty good layout for heavy.  It will roll early so you get that grab in the oil.

Odd that ball looks really familar.....LOL haven't seen that ball in ages!

Glad to see the ball got there in good shape.

as suggested a layout below the fingers, for heavier oil, and kicking your cg out will increase your recovery.

Nope you may be thinking of the Green Gargoyle though.

drill it 3 3/8 or 4 inches, pin down, cg swung out anywhere from 15-35 degrees. if the pin is long enough, you might want to put the cg down and use what luckylefty describes from ebonites sheet as a revs-leverage weight hole. I have a command zone arc drilled like this, and for not too low of an rg ball, it revs up faster than any other ball i have.

Try to put the mb past your val, as this will really start the ball up early. drilling with pin under your middle finger might make the ball go a little long and snappy before it makes its move (i have a rhino pro x drilled like this, and it is the snappiest ball you will ever meet on medium-lighter lanes).

Talk to your driller about it, but yes, probably pin under ring and a little to the right will put the pin at 3 or 4 inches, and then swing the cg to the right to about a 35 degree drilling. to seperate this ball from your xxx, you want it to roll early. the early roll mixed with dull surface mixed with strong early rolling core= good seperation between this ball and xxx and a good control heavy oil ball compared to the snappier xxx.

Just my thoughts on the matter, since it is a used ball, and not new.

1. If you drill the ball like you show in your pics, the ball will roll over the plugged part of the ball. The plug is made from non reactive materials and having the ball roll on it will cause the ball to not grip the lane the way it normally would if it were new.

2. The previously drilled and plugged holes may have changed the core dynamics to the point (because of density) that the ball will not roll the way you expect it to using the same drill pattern on a new ball.

My suggestion is to check the cg of the ball and see if it has shifted from the previously marked position. I had a ball plugged and the cg shifted from a pin about 1" below my midline to about 1/2" above it. I ended up shifting the ball 180 degrees from where it was drilled originally.

As far as drilling the ball in a controlled position you might want to drill it with the pin 2 1/2 inches from the pap and cg kicked toward the grip. The ball will play great from the outside as long as there is oil there. the other way to drill it is to redrill it where it was originally.

Well if I drill it the same way, it will have the pin next to the ring finger, with the CG in the grip. Is that an ok control drilling? Also, with the fact that the ball will be dull, it will help it roll earlier and smoother too.

If you drill it with the origional drilling, you will have a ball that if kept dull, will roll early and have a strong arc on the back end.

BK, sure try it out.  If it doesn't work, you can always sell your 10,000+ bags of cheetos to make money to redrill it.......

Then I guess its decided, unless Ryan May talks me into something else, but until then Im decided to just drill it the way it already was.

3 3/8' Control - Unleashes devistating power; generates a super strong roll. The hitting power is phenomenal and the striking potential is obvious when the ball hits because the pins stay low across the deck maximizing pin action as it drives through the pocket.
Out of the box this ball tends to generate the same break point as the Granite Gargoyle....to compliment the Granite, wet sand to about 1000 or more grit....this will delay the breakpoint by about 2 - 3 feet, allow the ball to store up even more energy, and leave nothing on the deck when it hits the pocket.

Excellent layout with 1000 grit wet sand for fresh to med-heavy oil.....versatility in the weight block and coverstock combination will allow you to swing or fire up the track with this ball.

Simply AWESOME!! - ENJOY
