The Green/Blue Centaur is Awsume

Just wanted to say I averaged roughly 170 last year during my first year back after giving up the sport for about 6-7 years.  I just got the Green Centaur drilled this week and threw it for the first time in the league I am in.  I shot a 189, 208, & 256 (Had the first 8) for a solid 653 (My best series).  I think I might have my first 300 with this ball.  Great for league shot I think I might average 190-200 or so with this green beast.  

I carry a slower speed and the big plus is that this ball does not roll out for me/burn up when it hits the dry boards.  I was playing a big swing shot and it carried extremely well - light hits and pocket hits striking everywhere even had pins flying and mesengers something at my speed I typically don't see.  I also felt I had a bigger strike zone with this ball and room for error.  

A Great ball for it stays on course with a nice smooth arcing motion and best of all doesn't want to deflect when it hits those pins it seems to just dive right through them.  I might have to pick up an extra one as they will probably discontinue this thing at some point.  For my game style this thing is unbelievable.

IMO most bowlers <ie. average speed and revs> on a THS could use a Green and Blue down and in with the right surface for their lane condition and kill them.  Most of us are tyring to do to much when you could go back to the tried and true Blue/Green slide on 20 up the track in most houses and average over +200.  

I need to do that more.

Mine just arrived today and I'm anxious to drill it and see what this orb is all about. I've not heard one dispairing word so this must be a gem to twirl. Looking to fill in under the Ogre SS.

My only suggestion is don't drill it too weak. The core is already a fairly high RG and the flare is already non-existent. And keep that tiny Mass bias marker (about 1/8" diameter) aomewhere around the thumb hole (big secret!). Surface changes are the key to this gem, in my opinion.

Yeppers!

FYI.....if I could ONLY carry one ball for a strike ball on a THS wall this would be the ball I'd take.  Tweak surface for desired reaction.  Move feet and trajectory to where you can pound the hole constantly and take your scores and go with it.  Low differential will allow you to play the dry with the correct surface.

I am considering picking up the B/G Centaur.  When you say don't drill it weak, would a pin placement of 4 to 4-1/2" from PAP be strong enough?  Also, for a right hander, which side of the thumb hole would you place the MB marker?

Since I wanted the ball for lighter oil, I tried it ONLY once at the stock 1000 grit; then I took it to 2000 grit IMMEDIATELY. Maybe I should try it at 1000 grit for the medium oil I usually see. Maybe I could go down and in with it: that's what I was thinking when I posted the above. Heck, I'll be daring and try it with 2000 grit, down from the 4000 grit I have it now.

What grit is yours at now? Mine is still in oob condition.  I like it, but it seems a little long for the pattern we have out.

Right now mine is at 2000 abralon.  I keep it this way for a down and in shot on a wet/dry house that I occasionally bowl at.  I play the dry with it this way.   Or, if I was playing more near the oil line on a wet/dry I'd leave it 1000 abralon.  During practice, I just keep moving my feet/trajectory til I find the hole.  My next ball out of the bag, if I was moving in to catch some head oil would be the Pearl Ogre or next in line the SS.

my plan is to drill it 1:30 pin next to ring cg just right of grip center about 3.5x4, then find a dry pair and see what cover adjustments if any are necessary,in order to keep it below the SS.

I couldn't agree more, with mine the ball driller (25+ years experience) drilled the thumb hole right into it and the pin is above the ring finger by about a half an inch or less and cg somewhere near the center of the grip.  If you utilize the dry boards this thing is an absolute monster like everyone is saying I swear it all never roll out.

I have a G/B Centaur on the way to my house and since I track high, I sent an email to VBP asking how to drill it..

Here's the answer I got:

Basically, if you draw approximately a 3 1/4" diameter circle (use a compass if you have one handy otherwise us a cup or lid or something close to 3 1/4") centered around the Big pin and a circle around the little pin.  This gives reference to where the caps are below the surface.  Try to keep the fingers OUT of the circle as much as possible and keep the thumb IN the circle as much as possible.  You can drill the little pin in the center of your thumb and remove it completely if you want.  This will keep the top cap intact and remove more of the side cap resulting in a normal track for an assymetrical ball.  If this doesn't make sense to you or you have other questions - e-mail me back.
