immortal solid ?
« on: May 07, 2007, 07:14:27 AM »
I drilled mine last week and had been somwhat of a dissapointment. My immortal pearl hooks a ton more. But after reading some other topics, I think i found my problem. I drilled this ball to strong, Pin 3 3/8'' from pap and MB in strong position.
I love my Immortal pearl , drilled with the pin under bridge and cg kicked out 45 degrees. I should have read more from other post. I have a high reve rate and ball speed. It seemed that the Solid just didnt want to turn the corner and i had to move right and play up the boards when i was using my IP and crossing 15-20 boards.
This will be a simple fix i will plug & redrill with a weaker drill and i think this will help. BTW i left it OOB and then polished it.

Before plugging, try what my friend tried: sand it a lot finer (4000 grit) or even add some polish on top of the finer grit level (2000 grit + polish). The ball is fairly rough out of the box PLUS it flares a TON!

Even with polish it should still react differently from your Immortal pearl.

Try it; you may like it. You can always plug it and redrill. (I'd bet you'd prefer a 4" to a 4.5" pin to PAP even with a finer surface.)

Good luck.

Too strong of a drilling for a high rev rate.

At the most, I would go 4-3/4 from pap

i have one that i had drilled 3 inch pin to pap and mass bias under thumb.mine was going a little long for me and not finishing strong enough.it had 1/2 oz.
positive side weight.i tried all different surfaces but still the same.tonight my ball driller took it to 1/2 oz. neg. side weight and what a different ball.it starts hooking earlier and its about 5-7 boards stronger.he took my weight hole deeper.

I wonder where the weight hole was placed?
I strongly suspect it was not the negative side weight which changed things (static weights mean almost nothing in dynamic cored balls, and less than nothing in strong mass bias balls, like the Immortal.), but where the hole was placed and how it affected the core.

I would not be surprised if it made the ball flare more and earlier than previously and that is what made the difference, not the side weight change.

Update , I plugged my Immortal solid and redrilled it with the pin over the middle finger. 5'' from PAP VMB about 1 1/2'' right of thumb. I brought the surface up to 4000 and polished. Now the ball really gets down the lane with ease and does have more backend then before. It is alittle weaker then my UImmortal Pearl. It should work fine when they start to dry.

what i did was reslug the thumb , Plug the weight hole and fingers.
used the same location for the thumb and moved the fingers to the right placing the pin above the middle finger. giving me a 5 X 3 drilling.
