IMMORTAL SOLID ???????
« on: December 04, 2006, 05:16:07 AM »
I have the Immortal pearl and I really like the reaction and carry. I have just purchased the Immortal Solid and thus far I am very dissapointed. The ball is drilled stack leverage, pin next to ring and cg slightly kicked out. I left the ball in out of box and it goes long and then just hangs at the breakpoint with very little movement. I have heard there are some surface adjustments that may be necessary. My speed is about 17-19 mph, so I am very scared to put polish on the ball unless I take it to maybe 360 abralon and storm1 finsihing compound. I am open to all suggestions thanks.

I throw the ball very hard 17-19 mph, with a little hand. I have put storm 1 compound on the ball and it skid further with less turn.

The ball is drilled too strong.  This ball has the highest flare potential of any ball on the market. A pin in the 4 1/2 - 5 inch area would be enough.  IF you want more backend movement, swing the cg out and put a weight hole on your axis.  Then adjust the surface if you want the ball to go longer or hook sooner.

The ball is drilled 4 1/2-5 and the CG is 2inches from the midline. The Cg is not kicked out like I thought it was.

Before you do any polish, use abralon pads to sand up.  OOB is 1000.  Start at 2000.  If that does not work, try 4000.  Then, put polish on it as a last resort.  Another thing to try, is sand up the entire surface.  Then, take the back flares and hit them with a burgandy scotch brite.  That will get the ball through the heads cleaner and then the sanded part takes over on the backend of the lane and creates backend motion.

I thought if you take a ball from a 1000 grit to 2000 or 4000 abralon, that would make the ball skid further. Correct me if I am wrong. With Out of box the ball skidded a little to long for me.

I really like the immortal pearl. The pattern I was throwing was something like this. The lanes were flooded in the middle and there was a bump but only 3 boards to the ditch. If I threw the Immortal Solid in the flooded area the ball would just skid right past the breakpoint. If I tried to play the bump you had to throw a perfect shot for the Immortal solid to react nicely. I may have been using the wrong ball to play the dry, but i thought the ball would give me a better reaction playing in the oil. I am going to be patient with the Immortal Solid, because I have like all my visionary balls execpt the Frankie May. I really appreciate all of the responses i have received and I will let you'll know the outcome of the coverstock adjustments of the Immortal Solid.

Redrill the darned ball.  It's drilled way too strong!  I know I've made the same mistake.  Redrill the ball you'll be happy you did.
Rock on!

Lion,

I've been reading through all the posts and would just like to clean it up a bit and kinda bring everything all together.

Ball Layout?
- is it stacked leverage (3 3/8) or is it 4 1/2-5 from your PAP?
- where is the VMB location on this ball, to determine if it is stacked or not?

Ball Condition?
- how many games have you thrown with this ball?
- what is the current surface?

Ball Speed?
- what happens when you slow the ball down from your comfort speed?
- does slowing it down help the reaction?

If you have a chance to answer, I would enjoy the opportunity to assist.  Because of the matrix of this ball, it deserves a little more detail in laying it out, especially this line, opposed to others in Visionary.

Updated on the Immortal Solid: I used the bowling ball at another house and the reaction of the ball was totally different. I polised the ball using Storm 1 compound and the ball reaction was totally different. The ball would clear the heads very clean and man the backend was incredible. I will keep this coverstock prep on this ball for now on. Thanks for everybody's responses, everyone has been helpful.

Glad you figured it out.  Mine was a huge turd, I'm sad to say that.  I got the standard "its burning up" bullslit.  It wasn't the case, believe you me.  I am using an EPIC Battle(low load particle) with oob 800 grit finish and it isn't burning up.

I never really figured out what the problem was.  I polished it and then it was weaker than my Rampage.........

I have to agree with agroves. I can only get the Immortal solid to work well at one house. I did not by this ball to be condition specific and just to work at one house. I sold the ball yesterday. I don't know if it is me, but this is the second solid reactive ball that I have not had success with from the visionary line, the frankie may and the immortal solid. I have had great success with all of the pearls, G-3,Green Gargoyle, Immortal Pearl and the Bronze Centaur. Hopefully i can find a solid reactive in the ORGE LINE.

I would have to agree with absolutebowling, this one of the better balls I have thrown, but it does have a weaker drilling. Question, did your driller find the MB? This could have alot to do with your ball reaction.
