« on: March 05, 2008, 06:28:32 AM »
how do the two afore mentioned balls stack up to each other, OOB, on a heavyish oil pattern? i'm in the market for a new heavy oiler and i would like to support visionary.

The Immortal Solid is much stronger then the Ogre solid due to its high diff. it flares about 6-9 inchs, and the Ogre solid only flares about 3 inchs.

More flare , More back end move. On a fresh heavy oil condition i would recommend either the Frankie May Gryphon , Or the Blue Centaur Particle.

The Immortal Solid is very aggressive, sometimes a little to aggressive I find. If there is any early friction, this ball can use up the energy a little to soon. Creating what looks like roll out or no hook in the backend part of the lane.

The Ogre Solid is a different type of motion, this ball starts up a little quicker but still has energy for the back part of the lane. I also feel the Ogre Solid is easier to make minor adjustments with as far as the coverstock goes.

The Centaur AMB Particle that getuaload is referring to on the other hand is completely different type of motion. This ball is a tough to play with. The Particle makes it start up so early on the lane that you MUST have a higher volume oil pattern on the lane for it to have any motion in the back end. Without the higher volume, this ball starts up at about 20 feet and has nothing for the back.

Hope this helps some

With your rev rate, you can't go wrong with either ball.  The difference is look on the lanes.  Do you want something to predominately play up the track or something you can use from anywhere on the lane.  The IS will allow you to get in deeper since it will have better recovery on the backend.  The Ogre Solid might react and hit flat if playing from deeper angles.  IMO...I believe the IS to be more playable from anywhere on the lane based on your specs.

when the lanes start to break in a bit, i do like to bump in deep. i do like the price point the ogre is at, however. could it be drilled to have good recovery but not be too long?

I think that the frankie may with a higher finish or that new gladiator would be perfect.  I use my immortal when i want to play up a long pattern out side or when i want the ball to roll set on sport shots.  Ogre doesn't flare enough to really get in.

I have both balls and as mentioned, the Immortal Solid will allow you more recovery in the backend whereas the Ogre Solid will not. With that said, if you want to move in deeper, the Immortal Solid is the better choice.
