Mohawk Core
« on: January 03, 2011, 11:45:21 PM »
I have a Spartan 80* 4" 40*
and a Pearl Gladiator 88* 3.25" 35*

Dual angle measurements taken with ProSect.  (PSA to pin to PAP=drilling angle and PAP pin to VAL=VAL angle).  X holes were added to bring legal and moved PSA on Spartan 10 degrees and did not move Pearl Gladiator's PSA.
Both balls spun on a DeTerminator spin up with the PSA on the left side of the label looking at the ball.
Any reason why the Mohawk core balls do this?

So you're saying that the PSA is spinning up to the left of a line drawn from the pin thru the serial #/CG and 6 3/4" from pin? Well I would assume the PSA ended up in or around the thumb hole seeing we're talking about a symmetrical ball. Did this happen? The Mohwak core was slightly asymmetrical which really means little unless the intermediate differential is higher than .010 or so. Depending on size and location of the balance holes determines how much it moves the PSA after drilling.

tommymo,

No as I said in the original post.  The Spartan moved 10 degrees towards the thumb hole but is still 2"s left of the thumb after X hole was drilled.  The Gladiator Pearl did not move at all and is a good 2"s plus left of the thumb.  Being that both of these balls have the Mohawk core and a small intermediate differential I believe you can treat them like a symmetrical ball when drilling.

Has anyone else seen this when spun on a DeTerminator?

Indeed, confusing.
From the position of the holes, the one on the Spartan looks closer to P2 or even P1.
The Glad's hole looks closer to P2.5 or P3

Off hand, based only on the Determinator's measurements I'd guess  the hole on the Glad wasn't larger & deep enough to affect the core

Yes Jeff it is confusing as we expected much difference.  My driller put the X hole on the Spartan at P1 to pull it further over and a P3 X hole will only strengthen if the PSA is on the right side of the thumb to start according to him.

The Gladiator Pearl has a relatively large hole and deep into core and it did not move.

Are there any Visionary users with Mohawk core balls that have access to a DeTerminator?  I'd like to know if others are seeing this. BTW....these balls are 14's.

SorrY about the mix up, I must've read it too quickly. I know you're on bolwingchat.net did you ask Mo, maybe he can help. Kind of weird.

Ya tommymo thought about it may do it in the future.  I figure it has to be the way the core is placed in the balls?   Since, they do have some asymmetry I conclude that the PSA stays close to where it spins up.  My Ogres both symmetrical changed quite a bit when I put X holes in them.  Since, I have had the X holes put in the Mohawk cored balls (last night) I haven't had a chance to roll them.  I will post any ball motion differences that I see.

I plugged the p1 hole on my G Solid. went 31/32" at p3 angled towards the fingers a bit. 1500 abralon and this thing has a total different roll. I can now use this.

I can see the mohawk part of the core. The main body of the core appears smaller than I thought it might be. I know if I get another ball with this core, I will drill it strong. like my pearl.

Scott, have you tried a bigger or deeper x-hole?
