Quick Decision, Need help!!
« on: December 21, 2008, 03:31:16 PM »
I have never thrown any Visionary equipment and I have the chance to choose one now. I really want a Heavy Oil ball and cant decide which one I should get? I like the Immortal Solid, but I have seen mixed reviews. I also like the Ogre Solid but I just dont know. Can anyone give me they're expert opinion? Also I throw the ball about 24 MPH with a good amount of rotation, so i dont have a lot of time to wait for skid/snap. Thanks

I haven't really faced heavy oil in a long time, bowling mostly on a THS and some PBA patterns, but have you looked at some of Visionary's particle balls?  The AMB Particle and Ogre Particle have gotten some good reviews for heavy oil.

With high speed, the Immortals are a very good choice. Due to the high flare potential, you get the ball quickly into a roll with a strong setup, so the Immortal Solid sounds like a good option to me - and you can still open up the surface if you need more/earlier traction.

Besides, the AMB Particle Centaur is also an option, also lots of flare for the high speed guys, but with extra traction from the coverstock.

Not sure about the new New Breed Solid, haven't heard or seen anything about its potential, but it would be my next choice. Other balls to consider are the pure recative AMB Centaur or the Frankie May Gryphon, but they'd IMHO be a step down from the IS or AMBP, probably medium to medium-oily condition balls for you, even witha strong layout.

Not sure if the Particle Ogre is the best choice. Not because it was a bad ball, but the low flare core could probably not work so well with your higher speed.

I throw the ball the same way... About 22mph and tons of revs, and I love my Immortal Solid. It rolls very well on med. oil shots, and I haven't had a chance to try on anything to heavy, but this ball rolls very well for me. I have bowled 3 of my 4 700's with this ball.

Agreed My Immortals i love em both but my Ogre particle moves a ton too and the more i throw the ball it literally gets fuzzier as the night goes on, i don't throw my ball as fast as you but from my scan i do release it about 19 mph but all visionaries stuff hits and carries good so with that being said haha i guess i am kinda a girl but go with what one you think looks the coolest cause you can always lay the ball out to do more for you...Well Good luck

I'll say that the NB Solid is quite a bit of ball.  For me at least its my new heavy oil ball.  Will it work on a flood?  no, I don't expect it to.  But that ball recovers from the middle of the lane on my extreme wet/dry pattern, and thats something I don't see just any ball do.  Ball hooks more than my AMB Centaur Solid, and if you were to put a really aggressive drilling on it I could see it being stronger than the AMB Immortal.  Ball is very versatile as well, I have a lot of success using it on lesser amounts of oil by just moving inside and letting the ball do what it does best.

I do think the Ogre Particle is probably your 2nd best choice if you want a cheaper ball.  I've heard lots of good things about it.  I think the AMB Particle will be too much ball for you unless you want the ball for a pure flood.
