Just Punched out my Ogre
« on: May 19, 2007, 09:28:26 AM »
So i decided to drill up myself my first ever Visionary bowling ball. Since most of my arsenal right now is pearl/polished, and my heavy oil Road Hawg is getting old, i went with the nice dull Ogre.

Pre drill specs were as follows:
15.25 lbs
3.42 oz Top Weight
3-4 Inch Pin

Drilling Used:
I punched this ball 4 1/2 x 3 (pin to pap x cg to pap) with a 3 inch pin buffer
29/32 Weight hole was placed 1 inch past my VAL and 2 inches down and 3 inches deep to get back to static legality.

Post Drill Specs:
3/4 oz Side WEight
1/4 oz Top Weight
1/8 oz Finger.

Initial Thoughts:
Before i placed the weight hole into the Ogre, i had 1/8 oz Thumb, 3/8 oz Bottom, and 2 oz Side weight in the ball. I threw it to check my track and to be sure my weight hole wouldnt be clipped by my track. My thoughts on the ball like this were impressive. THe ball had a very strong and early grab to the lane, which i expected from the 600 grit surface prep and from all the thumb and bottom weight which promotes early hook. The midlane was strong and the backend motion was very very strong and smooth. The way the ball went through the pin deck was another very impressive part for me. The pins were kept very low, and the carry created was very cool for me (this is a good thing). I carried the light pocket/half pocket hits better than my flush hits (all due to the angle which my ball entered the pocket). ALl in all, i was impressed

Then i went into the shop and punched my weight hole. I went 1 inch past ly VAL and 2 inches down and placed a 29/32 hole pitched towards the bottom of the ball and 3 inches deep. This got rid of both the thumb and the bottom weight and took out 1 1/4 oz side weight, putting it at 3/4 oz side. Again, i went out to throw the ball and here i saw my ball come to life. It cleared the heads much better than without the x-hole, yet still maintained that strong midlane read. The backend was a little more pleasing to me with the x-hole because it had just a little more pop to allow me to have more tug room and the ability to play a little deeper and not have to worry about keeping the speed real slow.

All in all, im pleased after my first 5 games with the Ogre. Tomorrow, Sunday, im going to make some video of the ball on one of the PBA patterns. Not sure which pattern, but its going to be on one of them.
