Layout on AMB Centaur Particle
« on: December 09, 2008, 08:05:33 AM »
Most of the times my lanes are mid oil, but some days are flooded. Any good ideas for mid oil lanes as I already have a heavy oil ball? PAP 5 1/2^ 1/2^, mid speed (15-16mph) and mid revs. I'll also talk to my driller to see what to do but I thought i might as well ask on here too!

This is NOT a medium oil ball. Even if you have a real flood, a weaker drill would be a good idea. 4.5 - 5 is probably a good bet, this is a real deal HEAVY oil ball.

On Edit: Maybe this can be my tournament ball. We have a good flood in Edmonton for our tourneys

There is no way I would ever think of using the AMB Particle on anything less than Heavy Oil or a flood

I had one and drilled it leverage..  I didn't like how it was working at leverage (even on a 50ft flood).. flare rings almost an inch apart flaring half way around the ball.

so I plugged it and redrilled it with a 6 inch pin to pap and 45 deg mb..
It gets down the lane and actually looks like a normal ball with normal flare rings..  I think I took too much flare out of it so I put a weight hole in it to increase the flare.. so the 6 inch pin gets the ball down the lane a bit more but the increase flare should help it hook more.. I haven't had a chance to check it out though.

The ball wants to hook though and will do it as quick as it can.
The ball will roll out with the slightest bit of dry lane..

kinda like throwing a bowling ball in the parking lot..
not that I have done that sort of thing  : )

Thanks for the replies and I might have to put a tamer drilling on it but throw in the weight hole as Jw73 said. Thanks for all the input!

That is close to how mine is.. Where is your pin?
Mine is under the middle finger.
More like 45mb angle x 6 pin to pap x 70 deg to val

The weight hole that I put in it was to increase the flare.  I thought the 6 inch pin to pap tamed it down too much.. I tried it out today and it worked pretty well on some freshly oiled lanes.. I think it might still be alittle long and tame but I don't know if it is worth redrilling.  I might just try to increase the hole or take the grit down even more.

I have an InSite SuperNatural which is very similar to the AMB Particle. I have mine drilled pin next to fingers. With this layout I see a good controllable mid-lane read and a continuous roll into the pocket. Works great on floods, but anything less than that it WILL over-react and leave splits.

The pin is about level, and about 1" left of my middle finger.

Has something to do with my funky ball roll.... PAP 4 3/4 over and 1 3/4 up

Polishing pretty much isn't recommended for Particle balls but it seems to work..
One of my favorite balls was a Brunswick BVP Goliath drilled leverage and then put in the luster king..
