Just wondering if anybody happened to have a list of the z spin balls that visionary has produced. I very well may be redrilling a couple of my older visionary pieces and was wondering if I need to drill them for z spin or not. I have an AMB Immortal Solid, an AMB centaur Solid, New breed solid and pearl, and also was looking into buying a used gladiator and gladiator pearl... Really just wondering though if anybody has taken the time to put together a list. It would be a really nice thing to have for future reference.
I thought that there was a semi-list in one of the threads on the z-spin balls or in one of my emails. Did not have it in emails but I did find one with some info on it.
When I emailed Jason at Visionary about the mass bias of Z-spin balls, this is my email and his reply which may answer your question:
Hi Jason,
I remember reading the articles in BR about the Z-spin VBP balls. If I
remember correctly, they said that putting the mass bias close to the thumb
would be the strongest (that would be using a Pro-Sect thru the pin and CG
and then using the mark 6.75 over). That would be for the New Breeds,
Mixed Breeds, and Gladiators, I believe.
Where would the mass bias be placed on the other older balls like the AMBs?

It's actually the exact opposite. Z spin balls have the mass bias directly between the two PSA points, and if you want a strong drilling, you should put the mass bias closer to your PAP, which puts the PSA point near your thumb.
The Mass Bias on the Mixed Breed is marked with a V. To locate the PSA points, simply put the Pro Sect on the ball with the 0" mark on the pin. Run the middle rib down to the V, and the PSA points will be on the two corners of the Pro Sect. This should be 6 3/4" from the pin, and 6 3/4" from the mass bias.
Now, while the Spartan and New Breeds are Z spin, they are very mild asymmetrics. The intermediate differential on those balls are only in the .004" to .005" range, which means that you can treat the balls as symmetrics if you would like. The Mixed Breeds have an intermediate differential of .015", so they definitely need to be treated as a z spin asymmetric.
The AMB's are Y spin asymmetrics, so the PSA and mass bias are in the same location. On these, you would put the mass bias pin (small locator pin) in or around the thumbhole to make it as strong as possible.
Keep in mind, that if you take a strong assymetric like the mixed breeds or the amb's, most house conditions do not require a really strong layout. Putting the highest RG axis (PSA point) in or near the thumb will cause the ball to flare A LOT, and often times will cause the ball to roll much to early for todays house conditions.
Hopefully this helps,
