I'm going backwards
« on: November 02, 2009, 12:40:53 PM »
Every Visionary or Visionite however you want to be called is picking up the latest and greatest and I just got my hands on a gently used Warlock DC.  I don't know what it is but I love me some old school Visionary equipment and this one is no different.

I got mine courtesy of Krumpy300 and kept the thumb the same which puts the MB directly right of that.  Since he has considerably larger mitts than I do that puts the pin 1.5" over and .5" right of my ring finger.

I haven't used this ball much, just about two or three practice games but I really like what I see.  I took the ball down to 600 grit to compensate for my higher speed and layout and even still this purple puppy has a strong angular back end.  It also gets very good length even at that surface.

If I compare it to my Orange Warlock with a similar layout and at 800 grit polished with Snake Oil, the OW is much earlier and smoother and over all is about six boards weaker.

This should come in handy for me at the house with the wet dry, I can start with the smoother OW and then go to the DC when I need to wheel it from the inside to get around any potential carrydown.  I am also impressed with the carry from deeper tighter inside lines, this shows promise hopefully I can make it deliver.

Be careful of them thar drugs. Once on them, it's hard to get off them.

Building a Visionary arsenal, YET AGAIN, are we?

Easy to see why you are getting into the old stuff though.....I still feel that the older goods are where all the control is compared to the newer goods....and sometimes it's all about control!!

Only issue I'd have with the older stuff is some are very carry down sensitive with the more viscous lane conditioners used today.  So, depending on where you bowl and lane surface one can run into issues or not.

I do prefer some of the older stuff to the new.  I match up well to the Ogre core and line well.  You can still get by cheap with the Ogre line if price is a determining factor.

Jeff let's just say I miss my old Visionary equipment. Also I find they carry the light hit much better for me than other brands.

Scott, the true test will be tonight on the condition that has a large amount of carry down.  It's not very difficult to find a line to the pocket but carry suffers if you don't have the correct angles.

I was always interested in the Ogre pearl but never took the plunge because I have two different drilled Awakenings.

Gary, I have obtained some older equipment from Jeff and find myself prefering them over anything new I've purchased.  You're definitely right about the control factor, it also makes it easier for me to keep everything simple.

Anthony,

To tell ya the truth I though about getting another Ogre Pearl and put a bit stronger layout on it. The OP for me is the perfect medium to light medium arcing ball.  I've tried other stuff and keep going back to the OP.  Most of the highest games rolled this year were with the OP.

Totally agree with keeping it simple.  Less things to think about means an easier game to play!!  And not having to thing about the ball and how much you have to work with it to keep it in bounds makes it all the better!!

In this case, it's not a matter of control. His Orange Warlock is getting like 7-8" of flare and his "new" DC Warlock, the purple, is making a left turn, outhooking his Nkryption Code, which he loves/hates because of its huge backend.

I like my OW but mine had only a 1" pin-CG, and that forced it to be sort of a control pearl, but the OW is a great ball, smooth yet strong. Traditional Visionary carry power. Wish I could use it but I'm not bowling anywhere where there's even medium oil right now.

There's something just a bit different about the DC Warlock than the N Code.  I feel when it makes the turn it's much more deliberate where as the N Code sort of labored to make that move.  It's easier to see where the defined point of energy release is when I watch the DC reaction.  Also even though it's stronger than the N Code I find it easier to read the reaction and know what it will do.

Lucky for me there is enough oil to use the OW on Thursdays trouble is I need to actually use it instead of other equipment.
