Making a switch
« on: January 04, 2009, 11:03:02 AM »
After bowling almost exclusively with hammer for the last three seasons I feel like visionary just might be the ball company for me. Hammer by all means make a good product, contrary to the many stories, I've never had a ball die on me.
On to the important stuff, currently I have a Cell as my oil ball and I plan on keeping it there. What I'm looking to get out of vbp right now is a snappy med oil piece and the Ogre pearl. After doing a little research I'm very interested in the immortal pearl. Is there a better option than that? my stats are in my profile. I have the Ogre ss and boy is it a beast when the lanes break down. In the end I plan to have an arsenal something like this

Cell-Heavy
Immortal?-med/heavy
Ogre pearl-med
ogre ss-med light/light
AMF Angle- spare

Ok all you test staffers and anyone with knowledge of vbp let me know what you think.

i think it depends on what you want.

if you want a similar hook motion as the cell but weaker i would get the solid gladiator.

the ogre pearl is definatly a good medium oil ball.

dont forget about the new breeed pearl as well... but i think it would be too close to the cell just more skid snap / hard move later.

dont know what the immortal is about never owned one.

What I was going for in the IP was length with the angularity so basically a different look. I looked into the gladiators and was impressed by them I just figured the solid would be the same as my Cell and the glad pearl from what I read was not as good a med heavy ball as the Immortal.

I would say look at either the New Breed Pearl or the Immortal Pearl. The Immortal Pearl is going to be "touchier" depending on the drilling. The New Breed Pearl was described to me by Jason as "more user friendly".

Hope this helps.

I'd drill the New Breed Pearl before the Immortal Pearl but that's me.  Not as drill worry some.

Don't forget about the G-3 that would be a great piece just under a Cell....that is if you want more back end if you don't and a smoother back end then the Glad Solid.

I think the Immortal Pearl selection depends truly on how you throw.  I had one in the past and I didn't fare well with it at all.  In talking with Jason and others, it could be the fact that I don't throw the ball extremely fast and with my style of release, ball may have just rolled out.

I do like the Gladiator Pearl though....actually....love the reaction of the ball.  Also liking the New Breed Pearl.  If you want more angularity, I would suggest the NB Pearl.....but that's me.

My Immortal pearl is drilled pretty strong(4"x5.5") w/ a weight hole just inside the VAL and just below girp center line @4000 abralon. It looks and acts like a No Mercy (maybe a little stronger even) to me. OOB it was way too flippy went really long and then snapped super hard. I love it 4000.

rustylegacy might have just sold me on the Immortal Pearl. While the no mercy had a hate it or love reputation I found myself on the loving side. It was the best hammer ball I've ever thrown, you can tell I haven't been around too long. I feel pretty confident in the proshop guy at our center so I'm not too worried about the drilling.

Depends on your PAP and stats.  I'll go out on a limb and say that MORE have drilled the Immortal line wrong than correct.....JMO.  Including me.  Shot a 289 game not for what it was intended for and sold it right there.  Guy wanted it....ya I'll sell it.

I have never done well with any pearls, until I picked up the NB pearl. The ball is just so predictable, and it handles carry down the best I've seen of any pearl i've thrown, and the pin carry is amazing. I would go with the NB pearl!

The Gladiator solid is pretty much like a cell to me. I've thrown both.

The Immortals to me are a really touchy ball as others have said. Reason being is because of the core. The core has such a high differential if you don't get it right you are going to be expecting something and not get it.

As others have said I would recommend the New Breed solid and pearls.

Or why not the Ogre Solid if you plan on having the other 2 Ogres?

Now I'm a little skeptical about the Immortal pearl. I'm going to go with the majority here and leave the IP alone. I think I will just go ahead and do the Ogre Solid, Pearl, and SS. The SS is amazing and the pearl is highly regarded amongst the population who have actually thrown it. As for the Solid I've heard it was too much oob and then some that say it doesn't like the heavy stuff, luckily I don't need it for the heavy stuff only the heavier med. Either way I have a spinner so a surface adjustment isn't a problem. Thanks everyone for the advice.

Yeah the ogre solid Coverstock is very versatile. Not snappy at all. You can put it at gray pad and you would be fine...
