Cracking Balls

Thought I'd post this question to Visionary users.  For those that have used Visionary for awhile have you ever had a Visionary ball crack?  

Considering that the bridge was not to narrow, holes beveled correctly, no misuse, etc.

I can say with all the Visioanry balls that I've had and can remember I have not had one crack. Maybe this is because covers are thicker?

I've also had some LM/L balls that did not crack also a thick cover ball.  Is there a correlation?

Something to ponder.

I had a Crimson Executioner crack.  But it was totally my fault, I had left it in the car over night and then threw if while it was still cold.

A decision I sorely regret.

I have never had a Visionary ball crack.  And I've been using thier stuff since the days of the Warlocks and Sorcerer.

I've never had any one of my Visionary balls crack. They seem to be the most durable balls I've ever used. Also, I've noticed that they do not track up as fast either.

Unless it is a Brunswick made ball AND I put the pin directly between in the bridge, I have yet to have any ball crack. And you know I buy a few balls.

What you may not know is I store all the ones I am currently not using in the basement. Those in current rotation sit on a rug on the concrete floor. The rest sit in their original boxes in their plastic bag.

My driller always uses a 1/4" bridge and bevels every hole.

Of course, no Visionary nor Lanemasters ball has ever cracked.

I tried during the winter and summer here in Vegas to get a ball to crack and couldn't do it. Left it in the garage, car, closet, you name it and then went and bowled with it. Still in one piece

Since I have been doing this is about 1995, when I got back into bowling, and I have been in this same house, this is obviously not true.

Also I use inserts in all gripping holes, if that makes any difference.

Someone else once recommended that you should keep your balls in their plastic bag most come with a plastic bag when band new. The ones I keep in the box are in their plastic bag. The ones on the rug are not they just sit there.

So both theories do not "hold water", as far as I am concerned.

And it is damp in the basement. Our dehumidifier runs a lot in the basement during the Summer. We fill up 10+ gallons of water per week and use them to water the plants.

In my experience, the driller's effect seems to be the greatest: bevel all holes, keep the pin 1" from any drilled hole, always use at least a 1/4" wide bridge, always drill slowly with sharp drill bits.

I had a greenie crack once. started at the thumb hole and just kept on going. Yes there was a slug in the hole, but I've installed many slugs and this is the only one that it ever happened to. that being said I also have owned many Visionary balls, from the days of the warlocks etc. and this is the only one I've ever had crack. Visionary has some of the most durable coverstocks ever created.

Not a single Visonary,L/Lm, Brunswick ball crack but every other brand yes probably over 60 on the count. Inside, garage all other brands have cracked most in half hardly ever just a hairline crack.

Remember probably had well over 2k balls by now, Brunswick is the most impressive considering I have at least 100 over the years.

first time i threw my ogre s/s it has a chunk out under the ring finger (obviously it was done by the lane machines) and the same night there is a small crack and the lettering came out.

BUT this wasnt the balls fault it went in the left gutter and popped out violently... which is when I think it happened. I dought any of my balls will crack, never had any other brand crack on me.

Have owned 10 Visionary balls since 2004 and the only one that ever developed a crack was a used Greenie. What was weird was that the crack started from the weight hole and ended up going in a straight line around the ball. I quickly replaced it with another Greenie and have had no issues with the current ball. I think Visionary makes some of the most durable coverstocks of any company.

My Charcoal Executioner cracked on me all the way around.  Not sure what happened.  I didn't leave it in the car or anything.  It was several years old and Jason replaced it with a new Gladiator Solid through their out-of-warranty program.  I promptly shot 279 with my new Gladiator, which matched my high with the Charcoal Ex.

You guys should have gotten a hold of some of the SL02 serial numbered Executioners.  They were the best balls I ever threw, but every one of them cracked.  In fact I have one of the crimsons I still use crack last week.  Kind of sad it was the last one I had in the stock pile.
