New Ball
« on: November 12, 2004, 11:49:38 AM »
I am looking for some advice/recommendations on a new ball to fit in between my Green Gargoyle and my Charcoal Executioner.  I am thinking about either the Violet Gargoyle or the G-3.  I like the fact that the Violet Gargoyle cover can be changed and I am worried that the G-3 will be too similar to the GG.  Any thoughts on either ball are appreciated.

BCB,

Couple questions for you before recommendations:

1) What is your axis?
2) How are the pins and cg's setup on the Charcoal and Green

Please let me know and I will be happy to offer you some options.

Regards,

Steve

Steve,

Both balls are drilled leverage with the pin about 1" outside the ring finger.  I am right handed.

Hope this helps.

BCB,

The Violet would be a good choice since it does rev up faster than the Green but is overall less ball than the Charcoal.  HOWEVER.......check into the Centaur as well.  The Centaur is earlier than the Green Gargoyle, but has much better control off the dry than either the Gargs or the Executioner.  Personally, I think the Centaur is the better choice since the Gargoyle and Executioner are both not what you would consider to be control balls.  I have the Green and the Crimson Ex.  My Green tends to be squirty in the oil and my Ex revs earlier and still has a strong backend reaction.  When those balls are not working well, my Centaur does wonders.  If you were to go this route, you may want to put a stronger drilling in it.  Mine is drilled pin above ring finger, cg stacked under, and the mass locator pin on the left side of the thumb hole.  In heavier or longer oil patterns, due to the low flare rating, it can squirt a little in the backend as well.  I bowl in a house with a 42 foot pattern.  I have a high rev rate and I have to drop my ball speed to 15.5-16 mph to get anything to hook.  You may also want to contact Visionary themselves at VBPadvertising@aol.com to ask the same question.  They will probably give you the best advice of anybody.

Steve,

Thanks for the recommendation. I emailed Visionary and I got one reply suggesting the VG and one reply suggesting the G-3.  I didn't even consider the Centaur in my original email to them.

I also have a high rev rate and bowl in a second shift league.  The GG has been working great but there are nights that it gets a bit squirty and the Charcoal is too much.

My plan was too use the VG or G-3 to fit in between the two I already have.  I would then dull the surface of the Charcoal and use it for more oily conditions in tournaments.

bcb,

Glad you were able to find the info you were looking for.  If it were me after finding out what VBP had to say, I would choose the Violet just for the simple fact that you already know as to the performance of the Green.  Also, I know as to the performance of the Green.  I have had one for 4 years now.  Still one of the first balls out of the bag.
