Immortal Solid 3rd times a charm ?
« on: November 09, 2009, 04:42:59 AM »
Well i want to try a Immortal Solid again. this will be my third one, I called Betsy this morning and they still had quite a few left so i ordered another one.

Now for the layout of this tricky $^%&& , I think due to my high rev & speed i will go with a 5-6 inch pin to pap. I screwed up my first one with a 3 3/8 drill. I didnt know how strong this motor was. I plugged and redrilled with a 4.5 pin to pap, it was better.
My second was a used ball i never plugged the thumb just reslugged it. I plugged the fingers and tried it with a 4.5 x 4.5 and was ok pin was inbetween the fingers.

With the new one i think i will have the pin above the middle, maybe alittle left of middle and cg right under ring. What you guys think.

That type of drilling IMO would be situational depending on your axis rotation and tilt and what you maintain the cover at.  If you shift the MB out too far on your VAL that may be good or not depending on your tilt and axis rotation.  Can you spin the IS on a DeTerminator?  That would make for better choices if the IS will come to a consistent PSA.  I don't know if it will as I have not spun one.

I use a Cell Pearl with a pin under middle and MB on my VAL.

Works well on medium's to dry-mediums moving in.

Thanks Scott , I have had 2 Immortal Pearls with that layout and i liked them alot. they hooked when nothing else was hooking. I may try that layout instead of over middle finger.

getuaload,

I might go with the pin over middle on a Solid if I had one to try again.  I'd like the pearl with the pin under the middle.  I would like to spin one just to see if a PSA would develop.

Thanks Scott I talked with Jason for a while about this . We decided to put the pin in the
middle finger and the MB just right of thumb. He thinks this will be the
best place for it.

I'd still like to see a NIB IS spun up.  Maybe some day.

Good luck with it that's probably how I'd lay one out also but pin above middle.

Reason I want to see an IS spun up is to find out if they will migrate to the MB and find a PSA consistently.  Also how long that spin time is if it does find a PSA.

FWIW, my NIB NBPP did not spin up to a consistent PSA.  Hence it's asymmetrical differential seems to me to be a very weak or non-existent.

I too would like to know what the spin time is, But my shop doesnt have a machine to spin it on.

Wonder if the Wonders have a machine on there plant/shop and can do a spin on a IS ? This may be a question we will have to email to Jason. If they dont maybe Frankie May will know ?

My driller does but at the time I had my IS he did not.  If I get another I will spin it.

Well , i got it right . After much thought i went with 6.5'' pin to pap cg in center and mb just right of thumb.

This layout puts the pin , Up and left of middle finger close to my track. This ball does exactly what i am looking for. I cannot use it on fresh its just too strong, but yesterday during travel league , I got a chance to pull it out when my New Breed Solid wouldnt turn the corner due to carry down.

this ball just cut threw the oil & carry down , then exploded the rack. thanks for everyones adives and help. I talked to Jason Wonders for a long time trying to figure out a correct layout for me.

J_w73, in the above is that's supposed to be now I realize??

Asking because I think if the ball is burning up, I'm guessing that the angle you are coming in on a down and in works better with the burnup than the swing shot.....but that's my opinion.  I believe the ball has to burn up later since there are not as many 'overall' boards being covered compared to a big swing shot and therefore you fare considerably better.
