New Breed Solid question
« on: February 20, 2009, 11:56:22 PM »
Picked up a NIB New Breed Solid and first thing I noticed (before drilling it) was how polished this ball was. I'm no expert on grits or surfaces, but if I were to guess I'd say this ball was highly polished 4000 abralon? Weird, as the ball is advertised as 1000 matte. I got it drilled 4 X 4 and on a fresh shot it just skated and never really had a chance to grab the lane. I was able to adjust my game by slowing down my ball speed and cupping my wrist to get some more turn on the ball, but wasn't really able to get anything comfortable out of the ball. I'm going to have my driller take it down to the factory 1000 abralon surface and see how much different it rolls. Anyone else ever have a NIB ball arrive in a surface that it shouldn't have been? Just curious.

Mine is dull, box says 1000 abralon, it hooks a ton. I actually used it for once last night when my break pearl was just skidding. It almost never gets used because its really strong.

spike,

I would send Jason with Visionary an email and tell him about this. Maybe you got one that was polished by mistake. I have seen Gsback's NBS and its pretty dull.

I talked with Spike about this last night and was waiting for a picture of it.  My guess is that maybe seller had it polished as he may have already had one in box finish and planned on drilling a new one.

But he did get back to his pro shop and got the ball down to 1000 abralon.  He said he threw one game prior to the change....and then two after and there was a world of difference.  So I think he's all set and is very pleased with the results of the ball.

Yeah, my driller said it appeared to be polished as it was very shiny, but you could get it to look like that with 4000 grit abralon as well. I did throw it a game in the "polished" state and it skated when thrown at my "normal" speed (16mph). Had to really slow it down to get it to turn. Had my driller take it down to 1000 grit abralon and the ball came alive! Was able to throw my normal speed and I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said the ball hit harder than any ball in my all-Visionary arsenal! Ball picked up a heavy roll in the midlane and the continuation thru the pindeck was unlike anything I've ever used. I'm sure this one will be first out for many nights now that I've gotten the surface where it should be. Great job Jason and co. Oh, and the color-scheme is incredible, especially when it sucks 10 into the pit! Full review to come after some more games.
