Which two balls ?
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:51:09 AM »
I have the Gladiator solid, and really like it. Which 2 balls would fit on either side of it, and make a good 3 ball arsenal?   Thanks guys.

Can you supply your bowler stats. and lane conditions/lane surfaces you will be using this equipment on?

My home house is older wood lanes, usually medium oil 38 feet. I'm a high track power stroker 16,17 mph. 275-300 revs. My Gladiator is drilled pin over fingers cg out 2 inches. I can play down and in or swing it.

Hmmmmmm depending on how you want to play the lanes and how your technique matches up to the cores and lanes.  Balls above would be Ogre Particle (smooth arc), New Breed Solid (similar length and roll off friction) or Ogre Solid (arc)....all depends on ball surface.

Balls below since you like the Gladiator Solid I'd go with the Gladiator Pearl (arc) or Ogre Pearl (arc) and of all the pearls Jason has said that these two will handle the most small amounts of carry down better than the rest of the pearls.  Balls that are below that would skid/snap are SS Ogre and if you can find one Greenie or a Crimson Ex.

Hope that helps and my opinions are based on what I use or have seen over the years using Visionary.  See profile for stats. to see if we are close.

I go long with Scott, FWIW.

Ogre particle or Ogre Solid above the Glad solid.

Gladiator Pearl below it.
Ogre SS below that.
Crimson Executioned or G3 Gryphon could be alternatives for medium-light oil.

Older wood lanes, with "only" 38 feet of oil may require a couple of lighter oil pearls.

Ogre Solid or New Breed Solid above, Ogre SS below, below that Ogre Urethane. If you like the Gladiators though there is the Pearl or the Gladiator SE on the lower side. Enjoy the great balls.

May want to consider 2 below the Gladiator... Ogre Pearl is a great ball, Ogre Urethane under that (doubles as a spare ball, possibly). New Breed Solid above the Gladiator. OR another Gladiator throw the pin under and change surface.

I would stick with the three Gladiator line up.

The LE isn't that rare I was told I had to wait for VBP to pour more so I think you can get one.

Gladiator solid, pearl, and LE, then Ogre U for a complete four ball set up.

Since you're bowling on wood with a shorter length and a medium volume don't really see a need for a New Breed solid or Ogre particle.  You can adjust the surface of each to handle varying conditions you might see.

If I had cash to burn I would set up this way but oh well maybe next time.

Thank you guys for all the great suggestions. I think I will start with the ogre pearl. I had my first 700 in a long time last night. I used the Gladiator all 3 games.

The Ogre Pearl is one of the most under rated balls in Visionary's or anyone's line-up.  Rated 8 for a tweener by BTM on a medium sport shot.  I think it's one ball that anyone will appreciate house or a harder lane condition.

I don't think you will go wrong with it dynozak.

what's great about the Ogre pearl for me is that it just goes about it's business rolling down the lane so nice and smooth and carries like mad.nothing fancy looking about this ball at all, just all business, good choice!

Agree with Andrew.  38 ft wood might mean the Ogre Particle and/or NB Solid might be too much ball.  Even the Ogre Solid might be too much.

Now, if you had to use one, I would think the NB Solid with a nice surface change would be ideal for a step above.....just not sure.

Below the Glad there are so many great balls Visionary makes.  I loved the Glad Solid/Pearl combination for a summer league and have always been a fan of doing that because you the progression of change in roll between the balls.
