Today I bought my first Visionary bowling ball. I bought the OGRE particle. I heard this was a really great ball for oil and at a great price. I want this ball for when there is alot of oil. Now that being said, I got a new toy so I wanted to try it out tonight. The lanes werent as oily as I would have liked and I threw the ball OOB and it didnt do a whole lot. I believe that with the rough OOB surface that it was just using up its energy way too early. My question to all the Visionary bowlers is this.......should I throw a little polish on here so that I could get a good reaction out of the ball or should I just leave it the way that it is and just wait for a very oily lane condition?? Anyone who has this ball, I would be very curious to know how you have the surface on your OGRE particle.

Either a light coat of polish via a spinner or take it up to about 2000 grit Abralon for more length, as an initial change.

charlest.......do you prefer the polish over the abralon??
-
OOB---I won't use it unless there's a flood, I've got other stuff to use for other conditions.

If you want to know what the ball actually can do for you, I'd wait for a soupy shot and try it OOB first.
Making it "playable" with some surface tuning will surely make it useable on lighter conditions, but if it is supposed to be your oil ball, I'd wait for the right occasion to see the ball's potential on turf for which it was made for.
I have a similar case with my NS² - it is my heavy oil piece, and I rarely face conditions where I can use it effectively at all. But I keep it at OOB, just for that purpose, and to have a broader arsenal.

If you want a "great ball for oil", why change the cover so it will work on less? If you really do want a strong ball for oil, wait until you find some before deciding on the cover. If you just want another ball for house conditions, change it to suit your needs. You can always change it back. But if you've changed it and hit some oil, you'll be out of luck that night.

I am a firm believer of getting a ball for what it's designed for.....not altering the cover to make it work for the shot.
The O Particle wants oil.....so use it for what it is....an oil ball. Believe me and anyone else that's thrown Visionary equipment.....there's plenty there to have fun with on any condition!! Sounds like it might be time to make another plunge.....

First of all, as most people have replied, I do agree, why change it if that's not why you bought the ball?
2. If you have a spinner, it's very easy to go back and forth. I just wouldn't do it too many times.
3. As to polish or a finer coat, it all depends. I use both. I'd start off with 2000 Abralon first, then 4000 Abralon. If polish is still shown to be needed, then I'd take the cover to around 800 grit US and adda light coat of polish, like Valentino's Snake Oil.

For people that do have this ball, what surface are you throwing it at ?
-
I rolled some big series last bowling season at 2000 ab. 1000ab was a bit much for what I saw. I went to a revless release played straighter up the track with great results with the Ogre Particle.....also did the same thing on a flat pattern where others were getting over reaction. Some said it was a great ball for Natl's on fresh...I didn't bowl this year so I can't say.

another thing about the ball.......the guy that drilled it gave it a "stacked" drilling.....is this a good drilling for that ball ??

OOB....great on heavier oil
