ogre particle for light oil?
« on: October 14, 2009, 02:15:26 PM »
I'm thinking maybe the ogre particle might be a good choice for a light oil ball.depends on the particle load in the ball and type of particle.and ofcourse how easy this ball takes cover changes and polish.
Thoughts?

Nope! Not for light oil.
Major Nope!

Use it for true heavy oil or for wet/drys. You can take it to P2000 grit or P4000 grit for medium+ to medium-heavy oil.

Not sure about that guys.

We were at the TCBA All Stars last year at Forum Bowl in Grand Prairie, Tx....and the 4 test lanes Jason was given did not have much for oil later in the day.

Willie had his Ogre Particle shined....nicely....and I threw some shots and was amazed at the length the ball got and the carry.  Ball did burn up at all.  I''ve thought about doing the same thing.....just never did it.

I believe Jason has given directions on how to take the ball back to original cover somewhere in the Visionary Forum.....might have to search for it.

On edit.....polish may work for the people that aren''t throwing 350+ revs!!  I am not near there.....so maybe that''s why I can get away with the polish on the ball.

I think the point is here like has been said many many manufacturers ie. new guy....use the ball that we manufacturer for the types of lane condition that we manufacturer it for.  http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=244375&ForumID=112&CategoryID=2

newguy said "We design balls for specific conditions, minor tweaks to fine tune a ball is suggested, totally altering the surface or extreme drillings to make a camel look like a horse is usually a recipe for disaster. My suggestion is to go back to basics and use it for what it is meant."

IMO if sixpack is looking to a lighter load particle then look at the New Breed Pearl Particle that is coming out and tweak it rather than the Ogre Particle a heavier load ball that is manufactured for heavier lane conditions to even out wet/dry walls.

But what about sanding an OP's surface to a high grit, say 4.000 Abralon, and then hit it with a wax containing compound - actually killing the surface (a bit) and just rely on the particles for traction? I understand that the Ogre, with its higher RG and lower differential, should offer a good base for lighter conditions, but I am not certain if it would actually work, mechanically...?

The Ogre Particle is too strong for light oil conditions unless you make a significant coverstock adjustment and add an extender like Valentino UFO.   I would recommend you select a different ball that is better suited for the light oil condition.

Yup. Sad that the particle Power Grooves are no more... With polish, these things were/are great control pieces on lighter and spotty lanes.

For the record, I am a firm believer in this actually.

However, bowler A, depending on lane conditions, hand, speed, etc may actually like the current reaction of the Ogre Particle and putting a shine on it might actually make it perform better than, say, the NB Particle Pearl.

Again.....I would leave the ball where it is and get something else for the desired reaction.

WHY???? There are so many better options than trying to tame this beast into a lamb.

I've tried it on a track phenom with great results, better then any light oil reactive and most urethanes.I'm not sure on the type of particle in the phenom though.how would you like to have a light oil ball that is never jumpy and carries? I think the high load in the phenom makes the ball less reactive and the lay out and cover adjustments get it down the lane.I've not had much luck with particle pearls as they are more reactive due to the low particle load.
the one thing I hate most are these light oil reactives that always hook to much or have poor performance.

1- Phenom is no Ogre Particle
2- Urethane....

six pack,

I understand what you are trying to do.  Don't disagree with you either.  Light oil I am not sure about but seems you are trying to control the backend but still drive thru on carried down lanes with depleted heads?  I have done this with higher Rg balls heavier particle load w/ polish ie. Bruns Navy Fuze & Leg Yeah Baby) but for true light oil I couldn't use these.

You mentioned glass particles.  TEC?

Try an Ogre Urethane.
