Ogre Pearl for me?
« on: August 12, 2008, 06:04:28 AM »
So I have an Immortal Solid and had a great season last year I ended up in the league where I used it almost exclusively at 232.  I feel like I am tooting my own horn but I am not accustomed to making that much of a jump 8 pins with just a ball  change and yes the shot is soft.

Anyway I have my Total NV to use below it but it has lost some reaction, I have lost some confidence in it etc...  Would the Ogre Pearl fit the ball here?  I have only the one Visionary ball and am really the only person in my area that I have seen throw it.  Any recommendations would be great.  Thanks all.

not sure what you are looking for but my ogre pearl is a really good medium oil or lighter ball.

throw it in a little oil and it arcs and holds its line. throw it in the dry track and it snaps with an aggressive backend (more of a hard arc/mild snap) another words its a very versatile ball and does what you tell it to do (thats of course if you say please haha)

if your looking for a ball you can count on where the breakpoint tends to stay the same then the ogre pearl is great but thats just my experience. im a tweener with soft speed/medium-low revs

That is pretty much what I am looking for, a ball to go to when the Immortal Solid is too much.  The TNV was what I was using before but at times it was a little much as well.  Thanks for the input.

If you want a pearl go for the gladiator because it is less flare than the AMB but more then the ogre

Will the gladiator pearl handle carry down as well as the Ogre Pearl?

Gladiator Pearl is more sensitive to carrydown than the Ogre Pearl, I would say that the Ogre Pearl is more versatile than the Gladiator Pearl.

Ball reaction is going to depend on the person throwing the ball.  We all know that....but don't assume that the Glad Pearl is stronger or weaker as it's really going to depend.

I've got each and they are drilled the same.  For me, the Ogre Pearl is far stronger the Glad Pearl in the I can swing and cover more boards and for a tighter line, it's more aggressive.  But....that's me and my style I presume and the fact that the ball is polished at 2000 grit.  But still.....

I believe the thought behind the ball was to have a longer version of the Glad Solid.  As Jason put it, it's used to play the same lane as they transition, just going longer before making the turn.  Allows you to stay where you were....just swap the ball.

Personally, I think they are both great!!

I agree. the glad pearl for me is weaker in cover strength then my ogre pearl.

id get the ogre pearl as its much more versatile then the glad. pearl. I can play a few lines with the glad pearl but for me and my mild revs it needs friction for it to come back nicely while the o.p. can be played where the g.p. just skids.

im sure you will like it. threw mine tonight in league but it took me a while to relize it had way too much backend so I put it away and was swinging REAL deep with my gladiator solid. even my friend was shocked how deep I was playing( who has way more hand then me ) still somehow managed a 225 last game.
