Ogre Pearl - I am Confused
« on: January 25, 2010, 04:22:44 AM »
Hi Everyone

I am considering getting this ball.   But I read some reviews and they say the ball doesn't hook much.  I read other reviews, and they talk about how strong the ball is for a mid price.

I've viewed the buddies video where the tester seems further right on the lanes so I tend to lean with the slightly weaker talk, but in the video the ball is highly polished.

Any help?

Your rev rate supersedes IMO.  txbowler has both revs and lower speed.

This is why most bowlers can't compare ball to ball.  ie. my 5 ball arsenal.

Ogre Urethane 4000 abralon spares and light oil
Green/Blue Centaur 4000 abralon light - medium
Ogre Pearl 1500 polished medium
AMB Bronze Centaur 1500 polished but slightly hazed medium with some carry down
Gladiator Solid 2000 abralon medium - heavy

This may or may not work for lots of other players but it works for me.

I would agree. IF you are rev dominant then the O.P. should be a very strong pearl. I've also read that some have felt it's a strong pearl while some have stated it's a little weak. you have to sum up the bowler posting the opinion about the ball and try it if you think it's a match.
I've read plenty of reviews and watched plenty of vids on the Ogre's and thought they looked good,I'm happy I tried one (Ogre SS) and that led me to the O.P. and now a O.U. I want every one now,

Here is an old video I shot of several Visionary balls B/G Centaur, Ogre SS, Ogre Pearl and Immortal Pearl all shot on the same day on a THS.

the SS in this vid is the one I bought off of bltbyj. great ball! that O.P. looks to have some back end to it.

I think this video is a pretty good representation of how I see my Ogre Pearl. My pin to PAP distance is longer than Willie's.

Here is a pic of the Ogre Pearl I had. This ball would move I was usually playing third arrow to about the 7 board with it. I ended up selling it but not because I didn't like it I just wanted something new. This was my favorite ball before I sold it.

I get a very similar line to this shot as well. My pap was 5 3/4" x 1/2" up, need to measure again since I have changed my form some. Great ball. I think you are right, with the right drilling, could be what you want. I have seen 4 other bowlers, all different styles, in my house throw the OP, and would not call any of them weak. Hope it works for you, too.
