Ogre Pearl?
« on: October 30, 2008, 12:10:25 PM »
What surface do you guys have your Ogre Pearl at? I am talking about the purple/black one, not the SS. I have mine polished with Secret Sauce and haven't found a good time to use it. Thinking of taking it down and trying another polish. I don't match up well with dull or non-polished balls. So what surface is on yours?

right now mine is at 2000 abralon plus valentinos snake oil.

I would imagine that it would work like this for my equipment:

solid gladiator
ogre pearl
gladiator pearl
ogre ss

only problem I have is I love the blurple but dont see that much oil in league. sometimes I can throw the solid gladiator but that lasts all of 1/2 a game.

I was just thinking of doing this to mine. Currently it is at box condition. Icewall, have you tried a little snake oil on the Glad?

I use my Blurple this way also.  I took it to 4000ab from OOB and it worked better on over reaction and better on slight carry down.  I think at 2000ab and slight Snake Oil it is a lil more aggressive on the back end.  I mainly bowl slick Bruns Anvilane that carries down as it gets colder.  I still have to get the entry angle correct for best carry.

This is my line up:

Ogre Particle 1000ab OOB
Solid Glad  2000ab OOB
in here I use a Legends Yeah Baby 800 grit w/ boat load of polish over
Ogre Pearl  2000ab w/ Valentino's Snake Oil slight amount
SS Ogre  1500 polished OOB
spare

I know blasphemy using a non Vis. ball with the YB but it's high load particle and highly polished cover give me the shiny particle ball that Visioanry doesn't have for carry down and moving deeper.  The Purple Ex didn't work for me here.

mine is at 2000 with nice coat of Snake oil as well. The ball is to strong to have it at any lower grit for me.

My biggest problem with the ball is my brain not trusting how deep I need to play to keep from going through the nose. Still trying to figure this ball out. It is sneaky strong.

when i said 2000 I meant 4000 abralon, which is basically 2000 grit US grade. Plus the snake oil.

I've still got mine at OOB finish and find that more than acceptable as it handles oil and still allows me to play in the transition as well.  Just change lines for the most part...and a little less hand and more speed.

I think I liked mine OOB the best but it did have a bit much when it came to the backends.

but for now 2000 ABRALON plus snake oil seems to be a great surface to reduce the backend just slightly and smooth out the reaction. think about it, normally this ball is at 1500grit polished. if you hit it with 2000 grit abr. and polish it is actually 500 grit lower... so that will help it grab into the midlane more but still retain enough energy to have a nice backend reaction.

many have suggested 4000 abralon but I tried this on many of my balls and just saw such heavy roll that I couldnt justify leaving it at that surface... perhaps the lanes I bowl on are just far too dry for a matte finish on the ogre pearl.

Dumb question- what is snake oil? I have my Ogre Pearl around 1500 abralon, no polish. Still learning what this ball can do.

It is Valentino Bowling Products polish. It is great along with their cleaner. 2 best products I have came by, and have tried many. Haven't tried the Resurrection on anything yet, so can't make a response on the stuff.

Scott,

Have you thought about getting another Ogre Particle and adjusting the cover to get the shiny particle you are looking for to replace the YB?  Just curious.

I thought of doing that Steve....but I have this YB laying around and I like the Ogre Particle left at OOB. I think the Ogre Particle is a better up the boards heavy particle ball in OOB condition and the YB better inside..the way they are laid out..  JMO.
