B/G Centaur MB marker/secondary pin

I'll call Visionary and my pro shop tomorrow, but I'd like to know if the MB marker is a plastic cap over a void like the primary pin, or is it something more solid?  Mine is starting to protrude from the surface of the ball.  Since it's on the left of my thumb, I will probably track over it.  Can it be tapped back into place, drilled out and refilled, or is there some other kind of maintenance the pro shop can perform?

My MB markers protrude just slightly over the surface. Since I don't track near the thumb hole, I don't worry.

Is yours rising more with each use?

As far as I know/think about it, it's the holder/marker of the mass bias on this core, even though the core has been changed to remove all of the MB strength and 99% of the RG differential.

I suspect you could sand it even, but if it protrudes more with use, I suspect yours came loose from the core. I'd worry about that a little.

Aside, I think that only on Brunswick made balls (MoRich) is the pin a cap or a marker. On most others, I believe is a plastic rod used to hold the core in place while the filler and the coverstock is poured. I've had those "caps" crack and the pieces fell out when I placed the pin exactly between the finger holes on Brunswick balls. On an older Columbia (messenger Ti Pearl) and Track and new Visionary (Gladiator Pearl), the pin didn't even crack.

Not sure I'd worry all that much as from what I know Visionary cores and covers don't separate which causes cracking.....IMO.  Maybe some others can add here but I've had some balls crack Roto, Storm, Big B but with all the Visionary balls I've had....none of them has ever cracked.  I also can say that about LM/L never had one crack.

My ball had the same thing, the pro shop guy just tapped it back in..  Haven't had any problems with the ball..

Charlest, Last night was the first time it happened, so no prior history to go by.

Lillen, thanks for your input.  I did tap on it a little with the handle of a small screw driver.  I wanted to get it pretty close to the surface since I track near if not on top of where it is.

I was thinking it was a rod like Charlest suggested.  Maybe if it is plastic there won't be any harm in tapping it even with the surface.  But I'll still call Visionary to see what they suggest.  By the sound and the reaction/hit I don't think there's anything wrong with the core.

Please post what Jason or Vis tells you about it. I'm very curious. It is odd that they all stick out, just barely, above the ball surface.

Hi Strider,

The plastic pin for the mass bias is simply a rod that goes through the center of the mass bias so that it can be located on the surface of the ball.  How you take care of it is absolutely up to you.  You can tap it back in with a nail tap/screwdriver, or you could use a small drill bit to drill some out and plug it.  Either way would be perfectly fine.  You should have no issues with the ball, but if you just tap it in, it may slowly work its way back out a little over time and you may have to tap it back in again.

Basically, the impact with the pins must have jarred it loose a little and you just have to push it back in.  It is more abrasion resistant than the coverstock though, so sanding it wouldn't really work because you would likely remove more cover than you would the pin.

Thanks Jason.  I talked to Jim this afternoon and he told me the same thing.

I tapped it back to just below the surface with a center punch.  Took a little more force than I would have guessed.  Since the cap is so hard, once you had part at the surface or just below, the edge of the remaining part stuck up a bit, so I had to counter sink it a bit.  Aesthetically it doesn't look as good.  When I get the chance, I'll probably take it to the shop and let them drill it out and refill it.  It's good to know it isn't anything serious.
