Ogre SS drilled pin down?
« on: July 22, 2008, 06:55:04 PM »
I have a NIB Ogre SS and I was wondering what kind of reaction it would give me if I drilled it pin under the fingers. I want a smoother reaction from the ball in the gap I'm trying to fill under my Complete NV. I know it's a skid/snap ball, but would pin under change my Ogre SS enough to give me that look?

Have a look at this video:  http://www.videoballreviews.com/gladiatorpearl.html

At 2.15 Britton rolls an Ogre SS with pin under fingers..

It's hard to tell. Pin down drillings are smoother than pin high drillings, but how smooth it will become depends on how flippy the pin high drilling is for that bowler. There's no absolute way to tell.

Depending on your release, the Ogre SS may not even even be a skid/snap release for you, OR both drillings, high and low, could be skid/snap, with the low pin just being less skid/snap.

I agree with charlest. I have mine drilled pin down full leverage and I love it. but i think its the nature of the coverstock to react highly to friction when it sees it.

I always agree when people say to not fight what the ball is meant to do.

and i would drill it weak as its already at a low diff. and it would only create more length (of course thats my opinion and depends on lane surface and rev rate, etc)

my thoughts are that its the nature of the ball to be very reactive to the dry boards and no drilling is going to change that. it might make it a little more 'rolly' but its still going to hook a lot in the backend.

for me i can try my best to kill my wrist and just roll it and even with the pin down drilling it has more backend then any ball in my bag!

personally I would drill it pin down roll it a few times with both the complete and the ogre s/s and if theres overlap or too much backend knock the shine off with 2000 or 4000 abralon. should help tame the backend a bit (never tried it as i just got my ogres and love the polished reaction)
