Ogre SS..how strong is it?
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:24:48 PM »
Saw a couple guys throwing the SS last week and was quite surprised how tame this ball seems. One was using his for the 10 pin.Lane coditions were on the dryish side, but neither were moving much.

After throwing mine for the past week and a half, I'd say that it's not a tame ball, but it's not super strong either.

Here's the thing, the SS will NOT react if it sees the slightest hint of oil. This ball NEEDS dry boards to react. I've used mine on fresh lanes and lanes with carry down and am only really able to get the consistent skid/snap reaction on fresh lanes. If this ball sees carry down, it will squirt and end up not reacting much if at all.

This ball is made for lighter lane conditions where there is a dry area to use. So, yes, it might be a stronger piece for lighter conditions, but on anything more, you won't get much out of it. Of course, this depends on your speed and revs. I am about 16 mph and 350 revs (minimum) and this ball really only shines on fresh shots.

Also, as an fyi, I have mine drilled stacked leverage so it's drilled pretty strong.

Bingo!

The SS is a great ball with any type of dry to throw at...but also like Rock said if there is any kind of oil downlane just put it away...a true skid/flip ball

Thanks for linking my vid

As you can see, the SS is pretty strong. The scary thing is, those lanes hadn't been oiled for over 24 hours, after Friday night glow bowling, so a fair amount of carry down.

On fresh for me, with my release strength, it is too jumpy, but hey, that's why Visionary make other balls.

One of these days, I'll go through all my balls and make a big vid

I had a lot of success with mine on fresh and when I needed to cover a good amount of boards on an extreme wet dry shot. I always had to put it away when the lanes got spotty.

Very, very easy length, not a dry ball by any means but it needs a good sound area to bounce off of.

Would love to drill another stronger and tame the reaction off the dry a bit and make it a bit more user friendly on more conditions.
