Post by: Grayson on July 20, 2008, 07:36:31 AM
If you would have to choose two ogres to make an arsenal... what would you take?

If I had to pick only two I would say the solid (orange and black) and the pearl (purple and black).

Although not proven as it is just coming out Ogre Particle and Ogre Black and Purple Pearl.  Solid worked for me on wet/drier conditions but on blended more even conditions it could be hit or miss.

Having owned the Ogre Pearl and the Ogre Solid,
I'd suggest either
a) the Ogre SS and the Ogre solid
or
b) the Ogre Pearl and the Ogre particle.

I say it all depends on what types of conditions you bowl on.

on a THS ogre solid/ogre pearl

Sport shot: ogre particle/ogre pearl or Ogre SS

My two would be the Ogre Solid and the Ogre SS simply because of my rev rate.  If you are a stroker type, the Ogre Particle and Ogre Blurple would be the best choices.

I divided them up the way I did in order to have more separation between them. For me the Ogre Pearl and the Ogre Solid seemed too close, with their stock surfaces.

The Ogre solid at 600 grit seems too close to the Ogre particle at its stock surface also.

no offense intended. The text came out as if I were screaming. I did not intend that. I just meant - let's keep one thread on topic.

Yeah I was kinda wondering the same thing, I have the blurple, and the SS, but last week both were skating through the breakpoint, not by much though.  I was wondering if I should go with maybe getting a solid and taking it up to like 4000 abralon.  Or if I should get the particle and take it up some and polish on top of that.  because I have a hard time getting stuff down the lane as it is.

Try the 4000 Abralon first ON THE BLURPLE, UNLESS you're sure that wouldn't work.

I found that 4000 grit Abralon on the Ogre Solid put it too close to the Blurple, but that was my release on my conditions.

For some reason I believe I found drillings almost more sensitive on the Ogres than surface.

I dont really want to change the surface of my blurple because 95% of the time its gold just the way it is.  but if I just happen to be on a pair that people have been throwing plastic or whatever then it kinda squirts past the breakpoint.  I think I might wait and see what people think of the particle esp. if someone is willing to try to polish one up.

ok thanks folks.... cause being a Track and Lane#1 fan... I have always kept and eye open for other companies and Visionary seems to have proven a lot of times to be a worthy to have a "look at".

the Ogres are reasonable in pricing and so for me a possibility to make a "second" choice arsenal for the set of three balls... plastic + two.

I also like particles and am eager to give a strong pearl a try...

So for me being a stroker I will take the "granite" Oger and the "Blurple" one into accound and save up the money for both.

What I also like is the fact that there is no filler between core and coverstock...

Will take some time till I can raise the funds... let's say.... Christmas... but those two are on my list.

Thanks for the advice!

I understand 110%. I have been in that position myself.

While the Ogres can be wonderful balls, recognize that in certain oil pattern/lane surface situations and for certain releases, their lack of differential can be a reason to use another type of ball, like the AMB Centaurs or the Gryphons.

EXACTLY!!!  I've been saying this til the cows come home.

Except for guys like Steve/TwoHands with his high rev rate mere mortals like me and others in the 300-350 rpm range may find the Ogre core not enough motor off the spot to get good consistent reaction.  On a THS no problem.  I do believe that the Ogre Particle with it's Granite type cover will allow for a better reaction on flatter patterns without the over reaction on moving backends. Solid AMB Centaur is another some ball with more diff. and smooth.....more than say a Solid Glad.  Me thinks React-A-Tack is a stronger cover than Galea.  JMO.
