OGRE URETHANE
« on: January 09, 2011, 03:19:24 AM »
I just bought a urethane ogre from a friend of mine and I noticed that it is marked as a blem. What exactly does this mean.......does it mean that this ball might not be legal??? Just don't know what Visionary means when they call a ball a "blem" Can anyone on here that is familiar with Visionary help me with this????

Usually they are color blems or slight porosity holes in the coverstock.  Nothing to worry about.  Have your driller weigh it up and drill accordingly.  Great spare very very light oil ball.  Doesn't like carry down.

Mine is a blem also as you can see from pic.  Nothing wrong with it.

Your ball is still legal.  As Scott said, Visionary blems are usually for cosmetic or minor surface defects.  Most of their blems that I have are because of color mismatches or engraving errors or minor pitholes in the surface.  I have looked at some of the Clear Gargoyles and they were apparently marked as blems because of minor air bubbles entrapped in the plastic or flakes of paint from the core that got loose when it was poured.

Also, Visionary is a small company and they have a very strict quality control program which might account for why some of their blems seem to be of very minor defects (not all of course).  From their website, www.visionarybowling.com is this:

Unlike some other bowling ball companies, we manufacture all of our  performance balls from start to finish.  By doing all of the work in  house, it allows us to control and maintain both the quality and  performance of our equipment.  Many companies do random inspections, but  at Visionary each and every ball is checked individually for hardness,  roundness, weight, topweight, pin placement, and overall quality.  If it  is not right it does not leave the factory.
