Oil Ball

After some testing of different balls in the visionary line,
I have finally decided what I am going to use to make an aresenal.

I have one question though....

Has anyone compared the Midnight Schorcher, with the Burgandy Gryphon?
I am trying to debate on if I want to sell my Schorcher, and get the Gryphon.

I haven't used either of these balls, but given the make up and technology of them it's possible own both at the same time.  You could always tuck away the Scorcher for those days when the lanes are cover with snow, rain, sleet, or ice, and then use the Burgundy on those conditions that are upper mediums.

I could see owning both, using the Burgundy on fresh first shift conditions, or re-oiled mediums with carrydown.  Then break out the Midnight Scorcher for your tournaments with OB outside of ten, or something like that.

Plus it would be easier to modify the surface of the Burgundy for league conditions than the Scorcher anyway.

Sorry I couldn't give you any concrete info, but I hope my thoughts helped ease your decision process.

I appreciate all input....

I am going to an all excecutioner lineup, using a charcoal where you are talking about using the Burgandy.

I have been looking fo a ball to replace my Rhino Pro T2, and my Rhino Pro X.
The excecutioner line seems to  finally be the ball to fit the bill.(After about 5 yrs of looking)

I am looking at 1 Crimson, 2 Charcoals, and a Purple ice.  Now I am just looking for a ball for a pure flood, and a pure dessert.  I'll get the blue slate for the dessert, just need a flood ball.

Currently I have one of each Executioner, but only use the Crimson.  I don't see enough oil to use the Charcoal or the Purple Ice at this time.  I put them away for tournament use really because of they're low RG cores.  I like how early they start up on the lane, but don't really get out of hand on the proper condition.  To me the Crimson reacts like a solid resin, not a pearl, but without any dry it will still skid off the lane.

If you're looking for a pure flood ball I'd stay with the Scorcher, because that's why they made it.

As for the dry lane ball the Slate Blue is the ticket for the desert.

I had a hunch you were working on a Executioner line up, so having the Charcoal and Purple Ice would eliminate the need for the Burgundy Gryphon.

Above everything else I'm very impressed with their Executioner line up.

Yeah I have the charcoal and out of the box it was toooooooooo much for leagues.
I polished it to 1000 and t works great for the first game, and most of the second.  Then I have to put it away, and grab my DC Tour.

I am looking at:

Crimson 3" pin Drilled Stack leverage (Same as my Rhino X)
Charcoal 3"-4" pin Label leverage( I have this one and it works about like the T2)
Charcoal 3" possibly Stacked leverage and left in box or a tad rougher
Purple Ice 3" pin Label leverage

Then my slate, DC Tour, and Schorcher (and there are a few lane 1 balls in there a viper and a pro purple)

Which means I need to get rid of a few balls

I wish I seen enough oil to use the Purple or Charcoal, but they are both simply drilled label, because as a few others have said, we have an oil embargo in NJ.

My Crimsom is drilled 5x4 (pin over) according to my axis and it has major backend.  According to some people it is a good light oil ball, but to me it is too strong for light oil.  If it hits any dry too early the core will stand up before the arrows.  I've used it successfully on flat upper mediums with fresh backends, and outside a 10-10 buffed wall pattern.

For most league conditions I'm using the Green Garoyle, Crimson Ex, and Blue Gryphon.

Eric,

I wouldn't sell the Scorcher, they don't make it anymore and as good as the Gryphon is the Scorcher is still the best flood ball ever.  When they went out of production I had just bought one new one, had my old one and bought another one from a buddy of mine that didn't care for his.  Just a great ball to have in the car just in case you run into one of those funky heavy-long patterns you may see once every year or so at some tournament or another.  When you need it, there just is no substitute!

Aud,

I found that with the Visionary particles for me I can go up the boards but have had the same trouble trying to cross any amount of lane.  (Big swing)  I would try something with more length and look for some backends behind any push from the mids.  Not knowing your rev rate or speed you could be looking at anything from the Slate all the way up to the Blue Gryphon with the new G3 the Green Gargoyle and the Red Ex. in the middle.

My Granite is set up very close to yours and the house I use it at is a synthetic that likes to oil the heads fairly heavy and to keep people honest they will play with the width of the pattern.  The Granite loves this shot and depending on how many righties are playing between 8 and 12 the shot holds fairly well with a move to the right as the lanes push.  Once the heads leave though it's either the Burgundy or the Blue depending on what's left on the backend.

I've said before that I would love to try this new G3 but I'm just too happy with my current arsenal.  The Slate too for that matter!

you may hold for a couple of months because the owners son,josh wonders, from visionary said they are coming out with a new gryphon that has more skid/snap reaction than a green gargoyle, but more overall hook than a blue gryphon!
