Frankie May new Full Roller Drilling
« on: July 10, 2004, 07:19:35 AM »
Has anyone else tested this new full roller drilling?

A customer brought in a Burgandy Gryphon in with a new full roller drilling, and I was like, it that even legal.  The customer said that it was drilled at Nationals and he weighted it in with no problem.  I redrilled another ball for him with the same drill.

Then I spoke with Frankie May at the Visionary Booth at Bowl Expo.  He told me that the old Full Roller drilling is a smooth arcing reaction, and this new layout is a skid/flip layout.

I will try and describe the layout.  From the pin draw a line from the pin through the CG 10 1/8". At the 10 1/8" point, this is the center of your grip line.  You must put the line at 1:30 layout from grip line.  Basically the pin and cg are in the finger quarant on the bottom side of the ball.

Frankie May is opening a website, that will have more information, www.frankiemay.com when if opens.

Bill,
King is correct because he taught me this about a year 2 years ago i also think that this was on the old Fab ball drill sheets. i layed this out on a ultimate Inferno LH player last week and he loved. make sure the top weight is not to high for this layout.

Wow, sorry about that.  I have never seen or heard of that layout before.  I have seen that layout on any drill sheets, they just have the same one layout full roller drilling on all the sheets that I can remember.

Bill,
I first saw this drilling on the drill sheets for the 3-D Offset series of balls. The first one I drilled was the 3-D Super Flip, and I think it was still on the Super Hook sheet, I'd have to go look it up to be sure. Never tried drilling one like that, but a couple of my full roller customers might be interested.

Frankie May, I think he owns a pro shop about 40-50 minutes from here.....Maybe I should check it out...I wonder how good he is?

Same thing here Bill, I've only seen the one....Then again, I never really looked too hard for full roller layouts, since I'm not one.

I think the cool thing about this drilling is that if you are a 3/4 roller with a high or medium-high track, throwing a ball with this drilling will move your track to full roller and you'll see a ton of hook on the backend.  I threw a friend's TEC Messenger like this and the ball came back with flarerings like I was a natural full roller(This was after it almost hooked off of the lane!)

the track probally became a full roller because the ball flared backwards due  to the pin being past the VAL.

I sure hope Frankie May isn't taking credit for that layout...Everybody knows that Mo Pinel discovered that layout.

True indeed Beans true indeed... I saw this 1st on the Faball and the old AMF drill sheets. Mo Pinel designed for both of these companies.   that's why we call him YODA.

How do you throw a full roller?

the people i've seen throw one either stay extremely far behind the ball or "suitcase" it. If i use ron c's finger dancing thing and put my index right next to middle, i can throw a full roller, don't ask me how.
