My trusty Charcoal Executioner is toast.
I pulled out of the bag and it has cracked totally around the entire ball.
When I emerge from mourning I will be looking for a replacement.
It's a dark dark day.

The bad news is that it cracked...
later, the good news is that you can get one of the new Ogres?

Fins,
NOTHING will replace my Ex
Except a new Ogre
Maybe...I still can't think about it.
But if I could which one would be the closest?

Unless you have a strong polish on your Charcoal, I'm thinking the Pumpkin (original solid Ogre) would be a better replacement for the Charcoal, rather than the Blurple (the Black and Purple pearl Ogre).
Heck, I couldn't use that 600 grit finish anywhere around me for my Pumpkin; I had to put a compound (roughly 1200 grit) polish on mine. Still a very even reacting, EXTREMELY controllable ball.
Got a Blurple but haven't drilled it yet.

Thanks,
My thinking was old vs. new technology the pearl cover would be a closer match.I had my Ex drilled to play up 3-6 on fresh 40'or better. The ball would just turn to the pocket when it hit the end of the pattern.Generally the newer pearls fill that roll.I'll wait til you drill the pearl and get your comments. The surface on the Ex.was 4000 abralon and was mainly a tourney ball for me.Most THS patterns are too light and short for this line.

I only needed to change my release on the Pumpkin ever so slightly to be able to play up the boards; this ball does not have a big back end for me, even with a 4"x4.5" drill.
It's going to be 2 - 4 weeks before I drill up the Blurple. Going under the knife tomorrow and won't be bowling for a while depending on what the surgeon finds in the shoulder. The good news is it's my left shoulder, not my bowling shoulder. So any contribution I have on the Blurple will be a while.
In the meantime, check with Scott33, an experienced Visionary user, and a few others here.

Hi Rackattack,
Charlest is pretty much right on with this one. I absolutely loved my charcoal Ex, and used it almost exclusively in leagues for nearly 4 years. The Orange/Black Ogre has actually replaced it in my bag, and is filling the spot very well. I don't think you would be disappointed with that ball at all.
Give me an email, and we can discuss this and the cracked Ex further.

All is well.
Jason from Visionary suggested an Ogre as a replacment for my trusted Ex.
As a gesture of goodwill he offered me a terrific price on the replacement.
This was totally un-necessary as the Ex performed for hundreds of games for a number of years without fail and had more than paid for itself.
Of course I jumped at the offer. The mourning is over, the Ex is retired, and I am eagerly awaiting the brown truck with the new replacement.
Thanks to Jason and Visionary this story has a happy ending.I explained to my wife that because Visionary did me so well I am obligated to buy the other Ogre at retail to show my appreciation. She disagreed and said I have too many bowling balls already.Non-bowlers just don't get it.
