Out of Retirement
« on: November 20, 2008, 12:46:05 AM »
Help, Visionary Land. I  am out of retirement and just got my price list. Where do I start with this current crop of Balls. I loved the GRYPHON line and I loved the Burgundy. Where to start if I am going to build a nice 4 ball arsenal from scratch. If you look at my sig, I have reviews on the older balls.

Ogre Particle
Ogre Solid
Ogre Pearl
SS Ogre

Simple, yet effective.

Scott, I just took 2 years off. Got completely burned out. But a buddy of mine bet me 100.00 if I could shoot over 180 for 4 games straight. So after I took his money, I remember how much I missed the game. I sold everything and all I have left was my Spare ball ( which I used to win my bet ) and a Vendetta Maxx.

And in reply to the person who posted the Ogre line .. I am not a big fan of that core.  I had a B/G Centaur and that ball flat 10 alot. Even for the condition that it was made for. And the Ogre Particle gives me this weird feeling of a Granite Gargoyle which with my ball speed left some interesting pocket leaves. I dropped my card so I can use Visionary Products since they have been so good to me in the past. That's why no regional tourneys since I would have to have two arsenals. One of Leagues ( Visionary ) and One for Regionals ( Dynothane/900 Global now ). Got way too confusing. If I liked a ball on a certain pattern like for instance E pattern I loved my Granite on that pattern and I had nothing in my Dyno arsenal that matched up very well I would be really bummed about not be able to use my Granite. I would be thinking the whole time .. man I wonder. So, I guess that's the long answer.

Audric,

The one Ogre you might like is probably the Pearl....very even rolling/arcing pearl ball for average medium conditions when you might need a lil more skid on higher friction lanes ie. old wood.

Solid Gladiator is very close to ball motion of Char Ex.  If you liked that ball Solid Glad. would be a good starting ball on heavier medium. Smooth ball off break point.

Pearl Gladiator many like I have not tried one yet would cover medium to lighter medium.

Wait and see what the New Breed solid and pearl are like and what that has to offer for heavier.  Both will be higher differential more hooking equipment depending on how you layout.

Gryphons....FMG and G-3 are still great balls.

Looking at it, I have a $300.00 Budget to work with so I am thinking

G - 3 Gryphon or Frankie May  with a 4 by 4 layout w/hole

Ogre Pearl or SS Ogre with a pin above finger 5 by 5 layout

Then I will see from there how that works.

How about a nice used Burgandy Gryphon for you for 65.00 shipped with about 15 games on it tops???

15lbs and span is 4 5/16 area with grips and thumb slug, the pin is below the ring finger and there is a low weight hole over from the cg below the midline of the grip about 1 1/4.

This will depend on if you are looking for skid-flip on very lil carry down which calls for SS or arc/roll on small amounts of carry down which the  O Pearl will handle.

Same here G-3 more length and flip.....FMG more arc/roll.

Like to hear how you come out Audric!

I would go with the following:

New Breed solid for heavier

g-3 for medium's or ogre pearl

ogre ss for light mediums

I would stick with around 4 1/2 pin to pap and see where they all land from there.

And of course nice to see you back after a few years

Just to let you know, there is a seller on Ebay selling a bunch of old Visionary Equipment.  If you'd like another Burgundy Gryphon he may still have some, just send him a message,he is a great guy to talk to.  Otherwize, good luck with the new stuff!

Guys, Thanks for all the love. I really missed bowling. And I am just getting back into it ( .99 Cent bowling @ Amf down here helps ) But I have throw all the old pieces but not the new. The Offer of the my fav. ball sounds really good. And thanks for the guy selling old Visionary Stuff. But I have probably forgotten more than I remember and the core is funky for the Ogres. Just a reminder for all is that I am and after praticing with what I have is I have a 5 1/4 PAP. with latitude. I don't work the outside of the ball ( as Randy states ) But I am very consistent.I guess that's why the only pattern I hit while on the regional tour was E or Cheetah...Forget Shark, I had m A** handed to me on that pattern. Funny joke to you all I bowled a regional in Austin and Bought a EPX - 1 from Columbia just for the pattern and in practice squad with that ball I take 3 of the right 4 shot in a row with a 5 by 4 layout.. I knew I had to work on my game or find another ball.. I hated Shark or anything longer than 45 feet.Back to that core. I have a very old school game with good ball speed. With my release and I just practiced tonight and I still need things to roll.I have a very long swing and I naturally get the ball up the lane.  Hence the strong layouts and very arch related balls. I am going to place an order with Jason in the next week and a half and all the help is great. That why I came back to this board because of the very knowledge Bowlers on here. Plus after watching youtube, I am very close to a FMG and a Ogre Pearl like Scott stated.
